I think everything depends on whether AT&T has locked in long term financing for most of its debt. Fed is supposed to raise ¼% at year end, and three more times in 2019.

However, with the U.S. having ended its quantitative easing, and the ECB to follow suit at the end of the year, and reductions of QE at the Bank of Japan, along with Trump's deficits competing for money, my play is that interest rates will rise beyond the Fed's hikes.

AT&T can end things like retiree health care coverage if money becomes tight. I'm going to treat an event like that as the canary in the coalmine.

I will reserve the “stupid mgmt” until the quarterly numbers come out late this month. Been with T over 30+ yrs, thru all the market & stock ups and downs, the stock splits, dividend payments and management changes, and though my patience has paid off, it’s not limitless, and retirement grows closer.

It may be T’s quarterly reports that send me for the exit and the temporary safety of cash. But if the economy heats up I will also focus on those indicators that tend to head the market toward a Recession. If the markets heads south, money gets tight and buying a T product or service gets unpredictable.

All that said, Randy might just really be Stupid!
