I have worked for many companies and have faced layoffs. Technological advances (automation) will continue to displace the workforce. You’re more likely to stay employed with T if you have skills in automation and you’re in Plano and Dallas. I can’t tell you how many people I know in other locations that were directly or indirectly forced to relocate here. Is it all about automation? No. Find a job that is hard to automate. Technicians will be around for a while at least until 5G starts to replace traditional copper but that won’t be for a while. Perhaps 5–10 years.

5G will NOT replace fiber or real high speed. Laws of physics are in the way.
Randal is an accountant. He has no vision whatsoever. He's a land line accountant who hates wireless ( because he doesn't understand it), but takes that revenue and waste it in outlandish purchases as TW, DTV, and TMO previously....oh, wait, that was just a handout!
Saving grace for "T" is to get rid of Randal...but that won't happen. HE is the biggest liability on the ballance sheet. India and outsourcing elsewhere will work just for short term.
@Vsmv8zl-1ahv Bless you are but for those that are not at retirement age I will say that the change is coming. 5g will be the game changer for HSI so we need to educate up or find another job that we can fart our way into retirement.
The people who do the actual work are the company, everyone else just holds paper.
I disagree that a company owes you nothing but a paycheck. After all, you're responsible for the company's success. But if you take that view of working life, you should also believe that you owe the company no more than 40 hours a week, excluding holidays and vacation. Don't skip family time because someone called a meeting. Don't work on vacation. And if you're offered a better job, don't think twice about whether you should be loyal to your employer. Take care of yourself, because the time when companies actually cared about their workers is long gone.
I don't think you understand IT operations if you did not include Bothell on the list.
IT jobs, regardless of where they are will continue to be sent offshore to Bratislava and India, either directly or via outsourcing... Does not matter where the person resides. You are nothing more than an asset with x cost attached to you... if the company finds another asset that can do the same work for less money - that's where the work goes.
Best thing you can do, is keep knowledge about how to solve problems to yourself, and treat your intellectual capital as confidential...
