Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Disruntal Employees

Call EAP or seek help if your tormented with POTENTIAL lay off's or if your unhappy. There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for you to ruin it for the ones that do APPRECIATE AT&T & EVERYTHING they have done for our community & families. Times are changing & there is NO COMPANY that GUARANTEES employment NOT EVEN THE GOVERNMENT. I am soooooo sick & tired of hearing you whine about WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN. There is ABSOLUTELY NO credibility in your opinion so think twice before you take & publicise your bad day or quirky views. I am AT&T & our customers so stop making it sound like the company is cruel & careless. Do your homework & search other company names on this site. Recognize it's nothing personal AT&T values it's employees but only if you thrive to stay employed. Don't think your 18 years of skills don't become obsolete, technology is replacing you not the company. Get smart & learn what you need to. Seriously, otherwise boohoo for you & good luck to you. If you do nothing but complain then you will be the reason you wind up in an unemployment line. Keep this channel open for ACTUAL layoff announcements.

I am honestly embarrassed by the spelling and grammar from "Disruntal? Employees".... The spelling is atrocious "publicise"?? and horrendous grammar....I resonate with a lot of the comments on here....The company was built by a lot of hard working folks and a very well educated technical staff....few if any are left on the technical side albeit being touted as a "software technology company" at one point....Accountants and Sales are running IT and the Labs once a top leader in R&D....has been all but dismantled.....outsourcing not only Tech jobs as if a commodity but also Care and Customer Service at every opportunity....I have seen little to no new innovation, technology or products to speak of or be excited about in years....enough said.....

I can testify to the fact that total company devotion, will not save you. I have responded to call-outs at 2 am. I have left family dinners to leave for an out of town assignment. I missed my daughters high school graduation to fix a customer issue. It all boils down to this. YES. I was paid for all of this. Yet. is this the life you want? My company loyalty, did not save me. It DOES NOT MATTER what you sacrifice. You are just a number. And if you are highly compensated for what you do, expect that they will find other drones, to do it for LESS. That is what they want.

@Vpd9Kj3-1ehx Why should we value our jobs? AT&T doesn't value its employees. We are budget line items that can be cut to make revenues look better. If you want to swear allegiance to Randy and work 60 hours a week, nights, weekends and holidays, have at it. But don't expect the rest of us to follow suit. And don't expect your sacrifice to save your rear when layoffs roll around again.

This is why companies like their employees to be as stupid and illiterate as the OP. They're so dumb it's easy to brainwash them into thinking they owe everything to their employers.

Let me guess, your all union employees? Go to work, get paid & go home. That's work, nobody owes you anything. Stop feeling unappreciated, you got paid... That's all it is A Job. If you don't like it, move on.

OPs post is at the essence of what is wrong. Your ideas are “quirky.” Oh, I suppose the stagnant stock price that has trended downhill since Randall’s inauguration is a “quirky” way to look at things. I find “burying my head in the sand and pretending things aren’t what they” to be not only quirky but willfully id--tic. We aren’t a company that believes in the best ideas, where a company full of people on psyche meds, that tell half truths daily and quantify success by how effectively they can cook the books. It starts from the top.

Speaking of which, here is some food for thought and ask yourself if you feel they apply to your experience here at T:

  1. A great leader always takes the blame.

  2. There are no bad teams, only bad leaders.

  3. Believe in the mission and explain to the team why. Do you know why? If you do answering challenge questions should be effortless and welcomed - thats how you teach others “why.”

  4. Check your ego.

Hasn’t been mine. If that hurts you, ask yourself why?

I'm old enough to have worked in real companies before I worked here . In a real company all the employees work together - worker,super,2nd,3rd,4th,engineer,techs.Lots of access to each other. Here ? Complete isolation. No kumbaya , no team work.Just a bunch on numbskulls chasing numbers for numbers sake.A wise man on the radio once told me that you can do anything you want with numbers, to reflect what ever it is you want to show.Numbers mean Nothing !

AT&T's problem is bad and incompetent management, When an employee fails or even just performs poorly managers typically do not blame themselves. The employee doesn’t understand the work, a manager might contend. Or the employee isn’t driven to succeed, can’t set priorities, or won’t take direction. Whatever the reason, the problem is assumed to be the employee’s faultand the employee’s responsibility.

But is it? Sometimes, of course, the answer is yes. Some employees are not up to their assigned tasks and never will be, for lack of knowledge, skill, or simple desire. But sometimes, and we would venture to say often an employee’s poor performance can be blamed largely on his manager, It describes a dynamic in which employees perceived to be mediocre or weak performers live down to the low expectations their managers have for them. The result is that they often end up

The syndrome usually begins

Ironically, the boss sees the subordinate’s withdrawal as proof that the subordinate is indeed a poor performer. The subordinate, after all, the most daunting aspect of the set-up-to-fail syndrome is that it is self-fulfilling and self-reinforcing.

Anyone who has worked here long enough knows EAP is just the legal depths way of finding out what problems they need to cover up. EAP help is paid for by the ~company ~ , they are not on your side. Internal EEO is just the legal dept taking notes to protect themselves from lawsuits
