Sorry, I Guess I did not explain very well. I know VZ doesn't make a net income of 30 billion on wireline a year, but they do have a revenue of 30 billion if you look it up. I was just wondering how you just sell that off or what some people are saying shut it down? If people are still spending that much money a year, there must still be a need for land lines.

Revenue is the total amount of money received by the company for goods sold or services provided during a certain time period. It also includes all net sales, exchange of assets; interest and any other increase in owner's equity and is calculated before any expenses are subtracted.

I agree 5g is not going to meet expectations. Better thing: VZB internet (701) is slow too. And its proven by the c-appy service. :)

FiOS isn't worth a dime and enterprise internet is built on old hardware. Stop throwing stones, brrrrrrrtttttt

The most recent post is stupid. Layer 1 (circuit/fiber) is a commodity. Nothing about wireline is "needed", considering VZW makes more than 70% of the actual revenue. wireless was built on every other provider and only switched to vz as cost savings in the last 2 years. I wish, for once, the wireline employees would realize they have been part of a huge conglomerate of old worthless tech.

Wireline is a waste and the worst thing to happen to wireless. Wireless has degraded and is now at the same level as Wireline.

Cut bait, move on

If no wireline then there is no wireless. By now most, if not all of the wireless folks should clearly understand that the wireless signal travels on copper and fiber into a wireline central office, out of that office on fiber/copper to a cell site or to any number of other central offices before traveling on fiber/copper to the cell site.

At best, the company will spin off the OSP/copper/C.O. Frame/Switch as a separate entity and keep all of the carrier as a part of a re-org'd Verizon.

Other than that one can expect business as usual with Verizon abandoning copper in '24 or '25 and using the OSP forces to deploy wireless NIDS and maintain the fiber.

Wireline is not 25% revenue. It's 25% earnings. Understand the difference. VZB costs to maintain which is why it's positioned for sale. Duh

Verizon Communications' revenue from wireline was 30 billion in 2017, do you really just get rid of it?

It is about 25% of total revenue. How much do you sell a business for with that kind revenue?

My only question is if they spin off wireline or if they just spin off wireless and leave the rest to sink. But I'm confident is coming and I'm confident that is you're not raptured off with whatever part has wireless then you're absolutely gonna have a bad time.

It would make sense that all VES/wireline assets besides those necessary to sustain (and connect cell towers) wireless communication would be sold off. The company is looking to trim off $2.5 Billion a year and VES loses almost all of that within one year. So, why not address the bleeding? There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Hans. It’s evidently clear where the company is looking to go and almost every business venture outside of the core telecom focus that Verizon was built on has failed miserably (aka- Terremark/cloud, ITS, IoT, IT Security, etc, etc, etc). Verizon is and always will be a telecom company and sales measured in terms of month to month cellular activations, not strategic sales and/or other core businesses.

No brainer this one. Whole point of the separation package is to reduce cost and make it more attractive for a buyer. This is the classic chop and sell strategy!

Do you think they would sell off all the fiber they could use to back haul all the 5G traffic?

Somebody posted this, maybe 10 days ago:

for real for real - . just got a call from dear friend who retired but his sister is well positioned in HR.. They have been listening,. it is coming and it is 3 weeks up to 20 years and 2 weeks for each year over 20. if you don't take it sectors will be moving the business to other states. announcements made with "in effect" date next year so no threat of legal action. take it or leave it..2 week severance then there will be waves of RIFs with 3o days. It goes to india. Enterprise to Xerox, wireless to Erickson....

So, sounds like someone at least has/had a plan to outsource IT to Infosys, VES to Xerox, Wireless to Ericcson. Any other rumors on this?

Yes. They will sell off Wireline ( and union) as soon as this offer is complete.

who would want to buy debt?

There's no one left to buy it. Even if there were, the buyer would be wary of them selling it off and then immediately moving in to compete using fixed wireless.

No, I think they'll spin the FiOS and copper networks off as a separate IPOed company. Employees who go with it will probably get some kind of stock option grant that will never get above water. When it goes, they get to magically dump off their pension obligations, the unions, and every nickel of debt they can saddle wireline with.

No. There is no one with the required capital at this time or in the foreseeable able future. While it is fun to fantasize about all sorts of things becoming real This is one those thing unlikely to happen. One could argue to the contrary that the company when less debt laden in the future is likely to add to its territory. Fantasy? Or not? Who is to say? Certainly more likely though.

In the US, a hundred years is a long time. In the UK, a hundred miles is a long trip. In wireless, 5G is a new yet to be proven technology. In wireline 5G is only a so-so sub-rate circuit speed.

There is not a company out there that would purchase Vz wireline. Maybe, just maybe, when Verizon is able to shut down all of its copper network someone might be interested, but at that point wireless and wireline will be so commingled, Vz wouldn't want to sell. They will just run wireline on a skeleton crew and with contractors just like many of the fiber providers do today.

This is a no brainer! Once fixed wireless broadband becomes reality. They will sell consumer wireline business as its profitable and can find a buyer. So in next two years.

Also after all the cuts they will make it attractive for buyer.

When wireless can put on its big boy pants and actually provide non-shared, dependable and consistent high speed connectivity it might happen. However, 5G talks a good game at up to 1Gig, but in reality will be more in the 300Meg range. Government and Enterprise customers require significantly higher bandwidth than 1Gig. Wireline currently provides 100Gig service. Believe it or not, there is more going on in the world than watching a video, surfing the net or playing online games.

It won't be Frontier buying. They are looking to offload the former VZ assets as well.

There is an unsubstantiated rumor that the buyouts are an effort to trim Wireline down enough to make it a more attractive target for purchase. The buyouts are heavily weighted toward Wireline employees it seems.
