Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

We all know what's really going on. It just gets worse and worse.

Instead of our management sticking up for us, they tell HO that everything is fine. When all the clubs act like things are ok and only report small issues then if someone tells the truth they look like the weak link. So instead they just push their associates harder, breaking them down and the associates begin to resent the company. And what this really shows is that management has no backbone. These managers jump through hoops and are dancing monkeys for HO. It's a bad cycle that won't ever stop. It's a part of the future demise of the company. If you're going to ride the sinking ship to it's end then at least bring an air tank. Time to develop some coping skills fellas. Either make an adjustment to take the ride or get out. There really aren't any other options.

When I left months ago after 22 years, it felt great because I left on my terms not theirs. Life is so good now. I have absolutely no regrets. Good luck to anyone thinking of doing the same. Life is too short.

I love this site and post. When you're in your own store and things are bad, you wonder if it's just your club or in just your area or market. Reading this site opens my eyes to see that the BS I deal with everyday is the same all over the country. I know every retail company has their good and bad, but Sam's tends to feel a little extra yuck. And the fact that HO does nothing and in fact allows it to get worse should cause others to see that yes this company is in trouble. If there are still people out there thinking things are ok, you need to look a little harder. It's far from ok

Yes this is correct! I have been with the company for six years, and while I am not a long time employee, I have seen this place become a mad house. I hired in and I felt like I was part of growing family, and now I am working in photo, covering door breaks, running register, and covering electronics all while supervisors and managers tell me I need to do more. This place is not like it used to be. We small employees are being used and HO does not see it.

Sales are not everything . Sure there sales may be up, but why ? They are still struggling . Buying and selling to get there. There investments they have made to try to keep up with Amazon are killing there margins. Selling off majority of Brazil stock, closing stores, no new growth. The overhead of keeping stores open, payroll, all the expenses are out waying there sales growth.

Because the economy is good right now and holidays are coming up. That always happens. I know of a club that was doing fantastic all the time. Still got closed.

@1aqo - great comment! Exactly how people need to be. They're all waiting for a severance for what? Because it's extra money?? Not me. I left after 17 yrs. I'm not waiting on severance either. They can kiss it. What is worth it is being happier at a better company making better money right away. My kids and wife are happier now also. That is was matters

Long term associate here everyone is getting so upset why. I just go in and do my job and laugh at all of the stupid ideas theses people they have made managers. They don't care and neither do the higher ups at home office ,half of them don't have the common sense of a peanut lol . Suggestion to everyone that's riding the wave like myself have a back up plan, cause if they keep runnin it like they are your gonna need one

Well , I recently quit.. after 28 years it was a hard decision of course . I didn’t get a severance , I was offered one when I was a audit associate. I started looking for new job. Had I took the severance I would have went close to a year unemployed. With no insurance. But all is well now I left and I make a lil more per hour at new job at 9 months then I did after 28 years . So I’m very thankful, I carried over my work ethic and it appears other companies just happen to be looking for that kinda employee. Don’t get me wrong I was afraid , although I was afraid to stay as well. With all that said if we work hard we will succeed

Im long term 25 plus years and the company has made me pretty much hate it. Fot the long term that posted on here how can you honestly still care about this company, enough is enough. This company does not give a damn about you and they do everything they can each year to get rid of more long term associates. I wish they would offer any long term associate a buy out id be the first in line. Yes we deserve the pay we have and on my worse day I can still work circles around these young people that we now employee well if they actually show up to work. Lazy and no common sense but the company says they are equal to us. What a freaking joke

I keep missing the bullet been moved around just befor the layoffs takes place. Keep true to your work ethic. The long term associates are the ones who do care and keep working. I will continue till i cant anymore. Even though we get paid more we are well worth it. Definetly run circles around the ones they want to keep. Eventualy im sure ill be walking out the door until then ill keep fighting to keep my job. Even though they make it hard on me with all the stupid nick picking going on. They want us gone for sure. Someone mentioned 28 yrs congratulations!! Keep up the hard work and dedication regardless of the outcome.

I feel like the long term associates jus keep fighting to get the job done . We were taught that from years of experience. We don’t like to fail we don’t like to see the company struggle. We take pride in jobs and want to respect the company Sam built . We wanna succeed as we always have . We are gonna have to face the facts I’m afraid to say and jus let go. That’s the new direction it’s not a career job anymore. It’s a get by Job and we just hate to except that . It’s the new way it seems. It’s time for me to move on 28 years with the company.

You are spot on!! And to be honest we're all doing it for the same reasons. To live and get by. Except managers get quite a bit more than us bottom feeders.

Here's to a front row seat to the end! 🍻
