Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Approve or Denied

Does anyone have any insight on how many managers they will allow to leave? Is this just a scam that they are offering to everyone and then they only pick higher seniorty people. Did they offer to everyone to avoid making it look like a target of older employees. I have 12 years I’m wondering if I have a chance.

No idea of how many will be permitted to leave on this package. What the company should ponder is how many that were not permitted to leave on the package but will follow a former co-worker into another company.

Lets be realistic; if your buddy left on the package, got a nice job with another company, a company that is looking for more help...would you leave Verizon ( without a package ) and go to that company.

If you are smart you would.

On the IT side they will let enough go that it makes the payroll numbers work for the next outsourcing partner. Then they will sign the contract and rebadge almost all the remaining IT employees.

People mention years of service to determine who gets it within a certain group. What if someone in the same position across the country gets it with less time than someone in another group who is denied.

I'm personally hoping for it. When the initial RIF's began years ago, I chose to use the VZ Tuition. Now, with 23yrs with the company, and my undergrad nearly complete, I all but ran to my manager asking to place my name to the top of the list.

I heard everyone that applies will most likely get it. There is no way they are going to let everyone go, even if they plan to back fill that will take allot of time. We have been interviewing for an open position for 4 months with no talent. The all hands calls are all about support and customers, so how in the h@ck are you supposed to do that with a few people.

During the last strike most everyone that stayed back in support was able to hold down the fort, well that didnt include new installs, all new products on hold and so on....hope they are not using that as a measure!

They said flat out that they're going to go by seniority. Under normal circumstances if they just RIF the oldest people then they will get sued. If they ask for volunteers and say explicitly that they'll be picking from the volunteers by seniority just in case too many people sign up then they'll be laying off 90% of the oldest workers while getting smiles instead of lawsuits.

This isn't to target people with 12 years in, this is to target people with 35 years in. At 12 years in you're not going to be towards the very top of the pile and you're not going to get picked. The only thing that might happen is that you get put on a list for the next round, but this juicy package won't be your prize.

Remember, they can't really RIF more than 10% max at a time without really affecting the functionality of the business. Cut, heal, see what's still broken, cut again... this is what they've been doing for years upon years. If they could cut faster they would, but deeper cuts do real damage.

This round will turn out to be a little bigger than a normal RIF because it's a special occasion, but not that much bigger. In order to get down to a 12 year employee they'd have to take like 65%. Nope.

Look where you rank amongst your peers for seniority. Figure that of the most senior personnel who's gonna go based upon personal situations and then start counting up to maaaybe 15%. That's who's going to get picked from the volunteers.

Everyone on the 'Useless People 2018 List' is Eligible. Only a narcissist could look at the breadth of the list and somehow imagine themselves 'essential' enough to be passed over. There is no lambs blood, you're all gone sooner...or later.

I would think, based on the term "needs of the business" that People with seniority within each group. would get it. if you have a group of 6 and 4 want to go, they will probably not let all 4 go and will use seniority to determine. If you have a group of 12 and 1 wants to go, they will let them go. So I would imagine that if that one person has less time than the 4, overall seniority will not win out.

The materials clearly stated that people with seniority would be given priority.

I suspect they will determine a base number of how many employees they need in any role in any location and then sort by years of service / salary. I guess it's possible they incorporate stack ranking in the equation...

If you take a look at the offer site, you can access the link that outlines everyone’s age and band. This is done so they can be as transparent as possible to avoid a lawsuit. They have said that this will be updated with after the offer to show the #s that took it.

If you receive it then you will get it.
