The Verizon folks will never make back what was lost when pensions were frozen in 2005 and health care benefits were frozen as well.
AT&T people are so lucky that their management team did not follow suit behind Verizon. (YET!)

Verizon's offer really IS THAT GOOD!!! T's is small and cheap by comparison.... telling employees get the poor severance package with low severance pay and get it before your pension calculation goes down in 2019 is pathetic but so is T!!!!!!!

So they get a big severance payout. But do they have any pension or other retirement benefits? Wireless hasn't been under VZ umbrella that long.
