Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Should I Be Worried?

I've been with Wireless for a little over six months now as a Solutions Specialist in one of the busier stores in my district. I am not the worst rep in my store but also not the best so there are people that make higher commission checks than me. I would assume that they aren't gonna just up and close all the retail stores and that Solutions Specialists will be the last to go. Even if they do cut SS, I assume that it would be the ones that make the most money first. I have read that the SMB role will be gone soon and they might restructure management but I assume Specialists will be the least affected since we make the least money and are the boots on the ground. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I’d say you’re way to fresh in your career at Verizon to have to worry about this. I feel bad anyone ever showed you this site. The SMB role rumor has been around as long as I have and they’ve done nothing but add headcount and expand the role. As for SS role and retail in general, i can’t say that your store will never close but I can say as someone who has been RIFFd that you’ll have the chance to transfer to another store if it does as long as you are an asset not a liability. Can we say retail stores will never be obsolete no, but we are a long time away from that. My best advice is to diversify yourself in role, learn as much as you can and make yourself open for change because changes always happen. Find a way to stand out and get to know the ppl who can determine your future because it helps.

All over the US, Corp stores are being sold to indirect retailers. This helps cut the set up costs for the indirect location by buying an already set up store location. More than likely, the company will want to part ways with direct retail and get back to basics which is being a service provider. As someone already commented, stores are costly and not making enough revenue overall.

The company has been clear about stores - they are costly and dont bring in revenue. They're looking to close as many as possible. Most often the best ones are for show and advertisement, not actual sales since that is on the Internet. Good luck

All my eggs aren't in one basket. If Verizon doesn't work out, there's always AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, etc.

I work with reps that have been with the company for 10+ years so yes, it can be a career choice that pays decent. I've only been with the company for 7 months, I'd hoped to make it at least a year.

It's never wise to have your eggs in one basket.
