Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Unable to be rehired if volunteer?....

In the agreement it states you cannot work for Verizon if you volunteer for the severance package. If that’s the case and I use my Verizon experience on my resumé for another job and they call Verizon to see if I’m re-hirable would Verizon then not say “no”? Would accepting to volunteer not be throwing my work experience with them down the drain? This whole thing seems sketchy to me....

As a management employee that left end of 2017 I was told that if I came back before 6 months I'd forfeit the severance. After 6 months wasn't a problem. Try to find a position during a hiring freeze and layoffs. Good luck.

While we are on this subject. If I take the package as a VZW field engineer, am I able to come back and work for the company that Verizon will ultimately use to source out network assurance (operations)??

Serious question.

mmn, I meant nowhere does it say anything about the 60 week cap in any of the news stories. They just say that the offer is 3 weeks for every year of service.

the 60 week cap is right in the link from About You.

You can work as a contractor after 6 months. What I find amazing is, I was reading the articles that tell about the buyout and they all say 3 weeks pay for every year of service, nowhere does it say there is a 60 week cap.

There was a cycle of people getting a rif and then coming back as a contractor to full time then getting a rif and coming back again.

They probably want to force the breaking of that cycle.

Your new future employer CANNOT call Verizon. You have to supply them with the work number link. Verizon does not allow management to provide you with a referral. That is how it has been for well over 10 years.

You are re-hireable for performance, and that is what future employers will be asking. The condition that you cannot be employed by Verizon in the future if you volunteer to leave now is fairly standard with any of these packages. It was part of the volunteer package that I took last year, and the company has given me a good recommendation when called.

Anyways... Verizon outsources their reference services to TheWorkNumber to verify that you worked there and the dates.
