Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Courage in Leadership

This is a very good move. Hans is doing what is best for the company. The offer given to the employees is generous. I know , I would not have been this generous.

This is called leadership and sometime tough decisions need to be made. What was done is the right balance and win-win for all.

I Agree with OP. If I stepped into a leadership role with as many parasitic, meeting-mongering, clock-watchers as we have here my first major action would be a purge.

I have to say when they sent me packing in 2017 after 26 years it turned out to be the best thing every. I pulled out ALL of my retirement, don't use any of their services and advise everyone I see to do the same. The idea that sending our jobs out of the country is good business is BS, plain and simple. And forcing people to take jobs or be terminated (no package) is just low.

Generous would have been not laying me off in Dec 2017. Or maybe adjusting the 35 weeks I got then to the 60 they are offering now (I would have got 60, I had over 20 years). Or perhaps offering a package then, and laying off those of us who wanted to stay.

I have said it many times, I still think Verizon is a good company, and has a good benefits/compensation package. But they way they use RIFs as a short term business tool is just horrible on the employees. I always suspected just how it felt to be RIF'd when I saw co-workers go over the years. Turns out I was right, I found out for myself last November when I was notified.

Courage in leadership my a$$. He came from Ericsson and had these same radical layoffs there all the time. Even had a 10% yearly reduction just to get folks out and bring new ones in. I still can't believe VZW brought this clown in. Departments are already thin, so get ready for that network quality to go down.....

5G isn't a saving grace and there is no strategy. This isn't leadership, it is a method to tread water, like previous leaders.

Oh look. Another HR lackey came on here to sell this $hit. VZ leadership is one of the worst examples of executive leadership on the face of the earth.

I seriously can't be bothered about this company any more - they're pushing me out to some other company in the cheapest way possible rather than offering a decent package. If they believe they are getting the same quality work for less the pay and job security, they'll be surprised...
