Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoffs to follow

I know everybody believes enough people will accept the offer, but what if they don't?

How soon can we expect layoffs and how bad they'll be once the numbers are tallied and it turns out not enough people are on the list?

Or there are enough people, but they are just the wrong ones the company doesn't want gone?

I'm at 21 years, kids still in high school. To walk away with 60 weeks, then what? Insurance is insane...especially cobra, then loss of five weeks of vacation I've earned, the ability to wfh when necessary, and then to say goodbye to all my friends after all these years, its a huge decision. Then if you don't put your name in the hat, are you then on the black list? Not sure if I should stay or go, (Clash)....this is hard. Verizon is not the same any more...doubt it will ever be.

Take the deal! You've got to know when to hold....know when to fold up...know when to walk away....know when to run! Don't be foolish.

It’s an awesome deal for some awful for others.

I’m thinking I’m blackballed at VZ if I take it and they reject me taking it due to everyone else in my group going and getting the short straw to stay. I say blackballed since they figure I’ll jump ship at anytime so they’ll just keep me till they reallocate then drop me ASAP. If I stay I’m blackballed anywhere else because I don’t think I have enough confidence in my (?) to leave now.

Yeah I’m not optimistic and I’m far from being able to retire but far from easily finding something. I expect I’m not alone.

The package is a good deal if you have 10/15 years and something else lined up. If you have 15 + and are of retirement age...I think it's a good deal.

Depending on your area, a typical separation package will be offered, i.e., 2 weeks for every year up to 35 weeks.
