Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Lousy weekend ahead of us

Frankly, not knowing for sure if there will or won't be a buyout offer is going to make this weekend pretty lousy.

If the rumors are really true, then them keeping it from us a few more days instead of just letting us know is just cruel.

I guess all we can do is wait and see. Unfortunately.

I know with the Mainframe outsourcing to IBM they were allowed to take there pensions and were able to rollover into something else.

I am not sure about them not "taking the pension" because ultimately isn't that what they did to everyone with less that 15 years in 2006? What happened to that money? And if they sell the wireline side, can't the new company "raid" the pension? I have heard of that. Or, not be able to fund it so you get a fraction of what you should have gotten? It's already frozen so they can't do that

I dont think they can take your pension. They may freeze it like they did bake in 2006??

I also have 30+ years but I am 5 -6 years away from full social security and medicare. The issue for me is not, a) leave with 60 weeks pay and Cobra or b) stay and work until I am closer to where I need to be. The decision comes down to do I take to 60 weeks and somehow try and make that work? Yes, I can get another job but this industry is limited and I would not make the money I make now. Or stay, which I would prefer but I think there will be major changes very soon and I don't know who will own the verizon wireline side or what will happen to pensions after that so the decision is based on so many unknowns. If I stay, I cannot say that in 2 years time, or even 1 years time, that I will still be working for Verizon.

LOL morgan Stanley, GS, JPM the guys that caused the financial crisis and bailed out by trillions of tax payer dollars? Trust them. No f---ing way. Folks the market is going to crash in the next 24 months. All the numbers of how great everything is total BS. If you believe CNBS you will get what is coming to you, maybe look outside of main stream media. Look at unemployment before the crash of 2001 and 2008 super low. How about once you fall off unemployment you are no longer counted. Unemployment is closer to 20%. Market will crash 30% then zoom up then in 2020 crash 75%. USD will lose reserve currency status and get a 30% haircut. We are moving towards feudalism. Good luck buy hard assets and ditch the dollar.

Financial advisors or financial calculators both give me the same info that either I’ll be a pauper in a few years or a milti millionaire when I die depending on the market. I guess I need to keep working forever.

Hey troll - Morgan Stanley works on commissions. I do not believe you are with Verizon. Fellow employees - go to retainer fee only financial advisers. Morgan Stanley is out to get you.

Good advice. Been doing the same. I am ready for whatever, but hope it’s an offer.

I’ve got over 30 years but you never know if you’re ok because we live so much longer nowadays. I think I’m good because I’ve been working with an advisor and I’m waiting for the right package and I think this is it for me if rumors are true. You don’t have to be nervous if you have a plan. Maybe you work somewhere else. Verizon isn’t the only company. Been great working with so many good people so from one Verizon employee to my Verizon family call George and Jason at Morgan Stanley. 856-222-4505. They’re smart and they tell you what you need to hear. I interviewed a few advisors and they don’t mince words. If you can retire they’ll tell you. If you can’t they’ll tell you. If you don’t have a choice but to leave the company or even if you stay they can help.
