Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is this true?

An if it is can something be done about it?

Post from @FkAYgtP-fSkwd:

Yes , at&t is using contractors and hiding/covering it up more and more. I'm a Systems Technician in South Florida. Workload for US is very slow. Not for contractors. Techs are sitting around the office hoping for work. In the meantime , other at&t units are quietly sending the work straight to third parties. They are supposed to first send the work request to the local area managers for "first right of refusal". They simply ignore the rules /contract most of the time. There's plenty of work available. It's just not being routed to at&t technicians. Because of this, A new round of layoffs occurs the following quarter because "workload is slow' and "unproductivity is up". It's all by design. at&t is methodically surplusing techs based on lies.

As a Systems Tech, I can't begin to tell you how many jobs I have been dispatched on following up a contractor install. They can rack and stack, but if a configuration change is needed fuggetaboutit

This is nothing new. At&t has a love affair with contractors. When I was a Systems Tech with Datacomm, I kept running into contractors that were dispatched on the same job, as I. 15 years ago. Presented it to the union. The company was compelled by the union to produce documentation regarding the repair tickets that they were contracting out. The stack was two inches tall. Went to grievance meeting with 2 other techs, a field manager, an area manager and a union rep. Company denied the grievance. That was the end of it. The thing was, the contractors had no idea what they were doing. Initially as a Cisco trained tech I helped these contractors do the job, in order to get the customer back up and working. After that, I just left when I found contractor on repair ticket.

There is a group of "engineers" that ALL of work the "Systems Tech" once did is handling. All Avaya work is being installed by this group. And some techs that get a service ticket to some of these customers don't know that the system has been replaced until they get on site. There also is no training on these systems being mandated to the techs. That way the "company" can legitimately say "the techs are not trained so we must use contractors" or this engineering group.

Get on Avaya training website and pick out classes that will lead to a ACIS or ACSS certification. Only then can a tech "grieve" against what is occurring.

The CWA is a complete joke. No interest in aiding tech anymore. Just look at the contracts they agree to.. Sad sad sad

Yep. I think You've got it.

In locations where contractors are working, You can't even get a freaking parking place. Here in the SE, the contractors always seem to be from up North.

I guess the economy up there is even worse than it is down here.
