Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RE: Midwest vsip Vsip for 25 people in center in Columbus Ohio.Ma and the Network Dispatch Center

Everything this company does is plan in 3 years cycles, I believe this is the reason T is offering some areas the FAKE "transition to retirement". They are able to get older employees off the books in 1-3 years and they do not have to lay them off. to avoid discrimination class action suit, A good way to get older workers to leave without laying them off.

Same situation providing uniion Members willing to Join the management club, and sweetly pushed them all out to the Dumpster curb. 3 years later- without contract protection they were doomed by design.

There are thousands more US employees who left on their own after being demoted or otherwise discriminated against. Numerous other countries too. The CEO has some explaining to do. There have been countless "projects" on his watch.

is concerned and should be. Blatant age discrimination based on my experience. This is not the only firm pursuing law suits for age, just the first one to do so via class action.

It is about time! Hope the CEO is dragged through the mud.

First of all the offer is not VSIPP it is a SIPP that was offered to the MA's on the 13th floor & the 11th floor combined with needing 25 off the payroll. It will be interesting to see when all the dust settles how many of the lowest seniority will end up being laid off. It is such a shame that this is even taking place after we already had 9 people take SIPP and off payroll August 31st 2018 in the NDCI-Dispatch In Center. This came out of left field for all of us and it still does not seem real. Where is that extra tax money now and w still don't even have a settled contract!!!!!

@fpo, it would’ve been better served if I simply said that it’s simply a judgement call for each party.

How long do you wait for the VSIP / VTP package, if your ready to go. You could play the waiting game forever, and it might never come your way. When do decide to stop waiting for a maybe, another six months, then another, and another... When you are ready to just go.

OP, you make a fair argument on the 1-3 year cycle to get potential retirees off the books. The other side of the coin might be two fold, from that retirees point of view:

First, if I was near retirement (and now I am) why not wait around and see if any Voluntary Surplusses are pushed my way.....call it dessert, on top of my Pension & 401K.

Second point: Please, always refer to point #1, seriously It’s always about timing to the wishful retiree...always.

If family health is good, and T thinks we are still a useful commodity then we will earn our pay. But If a retirees work sews discord at home they may not even bother waiting for the Severance Pkg, remember....it’s always timing!
