The company serverance that you sign for prevents you from getting umemployment. Even if you successfully convince the unemployment dept that you were let go, they eventually catch you when they contact Verizon. I know many people who tried and failed.

Texas requires you to wait until your severance pay is completed.

Nonsense. The minute that you get notified that you are going to be burned, start getting your Unemployment filing info in order.
As said, IT DEPENDS ON THE STATE. In some states, no waiting period at all.
I was let go in June and had no problem getting UE the week after I received my severance. I'm in Oklahoma

Yes, depends on state. In MA, if you have to sign a release to get the benefits (which you do with VZ), you will still get unemployment.
Depends on what state you are in. CA and OR do not count severance, vacation or bonus payouts at termination or layoff to determine when your benefits begin. All that pay is just considered as your final paycheck.
