Pros:

1) Verizon is giving me nearly a year (based on my 15 yrs if service) to find a job with a better positioned company

2) It gives me more control over my life than waiting for a RIF or being re-org'd and RIF'd

Cons:

After a year I may have to take a job that pays less or significantly less and also may have to join company with even more bureaucracy than Verizon.

Pros outweigh it for me.

OP, it’s freakin’ torture to listen to you thinking aloud. Thank you for your service Captain Obvious. Where would we be without your sage insight to guide us?

Oh, yeah.

Exactly where we are.

Dope.

Pro's....not many if any.

Con's .....lot's.

If you are here long enough to get the full 60 weeks, you have pay for that long and 60 weeks of insurance. so basically 60 weeks to find another job. On the other hand, are you able to take the pay hit and loose the vacation time?

finding another job for most is going to be like starting over again. Also most who are here long enough are at an age where finding another job is not going to be that easy either.

If you're young it may not seem like that big of a deal, take buyout or risk RIF and then move on. For the older people, it is a complete life changing event and for some, devastating.

I think the PRO's are for the rich company share holders, Where Billions in profit isn't enough

The CON's are for those working here who are just trying to pay their bills.
