Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Clubs closing 2019

Just heard that a little birdy slipped some vital information out in the universe. More clubs are closing 2019. If you love paying your bills and providing for yourself/family you should move over to the Walmart side or move on to a different company.

I work for Sam's in Indy we did 110 million last year and have no associates to cover the floor for the members. The new block schedule has everyone quitting.

I would love to know where you all are getting your info from? Do you work for Sams or are you disgruntled former employees?

A location in north Texas is doing what Bentonville says is testing of new full time employee hours to include ONLY two eight hour shifts, they fill the gaps with part time employees of only four hour shifts. It runs through the coming holidays, till the end of January. You either work 5am to 1 pm or 2pm to 10pm. Also,It does not matter what the law defines as full time in Texas, (or any other state for that matter) you must now work a schedule of 40 hours on the clock to be considered a full time employee, not anything less. This is not only an inconvenience those who have families and lives outside of the club, with the club not opening until 7am, that means jobs that normally have a "customer service"position, ie, front desk, cafe, cashiers, COS etc, etc...they are being made to crossover to a logistic night time positions, restocking, store maintenance, janitorial,etc... to perform additional night crew responsibilities to justify being on the clock before/after normal operating opening and closing hours. Then, they go to the job duties for the original positions they were hired for...and don't even ask or expect a weekend, (Saturday AND Sunday off) you'll continue to get your two days off a week just not on Saturday and Sunday, you might not even get them on consecutive days. Either Bentonville has drank the kool-aid by doing this, or local management is lying about this being Bentonville's doing or the club is on the 2019 store closing list to begin ironically in January.

let me see

sales growth

opening a no register club

increasing pay in fresh

increasing the e-commerce foot print

sounds like a company with no future

Just because they close financially faulty clubs and cut over paid employees doesn't really mean a bleak future, well not for those of us who still have jobs.

My source is definitely not this site. Hope ur club makes it. I’m sure you haven’t been around long enough to know how it goes. At the beginning of each year there are restructures. And in case you haven’t heard of Amazon/E-Commerce these companies are taking over.

Prayers to you and your future

On the Walmart side of things they have been closing nonprofit / underperforming stores under the radar this entire year.

I do not think any of the Clubs that are vulnerable to Closure would be a surprise.

There has been consolidation going on for some time. The real test here is that there are No New Clubs opened and none planned currently. As we know it takes several years to identify sites , get the required approvals and analysis. Then the Construction or conversion of existing structures in takeovers. So easily 2- 2 1/2 yrs.. this should tell you all you need to know. No growth or plans to expand the foot print. So more Closings cannot be a shock. They will come after end of Holiday season and as we enter the fiscal year. The Company is leaving the Club business to Competitors. It is not the future. It will continue to shrink , positions and overhead will be eliminated. Eventually it will be peeled off and sold . Just following the logical process. I do not pretend to know anything more than my fellow team mates. I do however recognize the signs of a unhealthy business model. Clearly we have all the signs. All we can do is ride the wave unfortunately. Nothing we say or do will do anything but cause people unnecessary anxiety. I do not wish to do so, but do know the writing is on the wall. When you close 63 locations and continue to grind the grist from the mill, it’s not headed anywhere positive. I would say to all of my brothers and sisters wherever you are in the food chain.. prepare for rough seas!

God Bless us and best to all!

We already knew more clubs are closing. Not sure why you would think Walmart is safer. They have lots of changes there also. When my store closed, the people who went to Walmart are miserable. Everything that happens to Sam's also happens at Walmart. Better off with a different company.
