Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Does anybody know when Verizon will start to wire n.y for the real 5 g global standard

Not the fake 5 g that they are putting out in those other states. Maybe they will not wire 5 g anytime soon since they have fios in that state. Does anybody know Vz's timeframe? 2 years,4years,10 years, is it in the drawing board or maybe it's an empty draw. T-mobile and att looks like they are going beat Vz to the race for global 5 g.

@craz Not one of the earlier posters but what you describe is barely an improvement on WiFi. Sort of a campus wifi on steroids. I am well aware of 5g's potential and even believe in its ultimate success, however we are a long way to any kind of blanketed coverage. I am involved in some of the implementation work and we have a ways to go to actually pull it all off. The amount of labor needed is going to be enormous.

You might be eating crow on that one. In a college city one state away from you, they've already surveyed the cluster and plan on building 5G in 2019 for the college kids there. Looking at the spec's on the antennas and frequencies though, I don't think we'll be driving a 5G call thru farm country for a few years to come.

Once they actually finish installing FIOS, they will get right on it.

@1yst

My sentiments exactly. Sheeple act like this is going to be a cakewalk, putting devices that can cause diseases to people in their back yards and pretending that the educated ones will just be like... "I will die 20 years earlier BUT I can download a Miley Cyrus video in half a second compared to 10 seconds?? Me all in!!!"...

VZ will soon figure out that running fiber for 5g's backbone will be as much (or more) effort than running for FIOS. For FIOS, fiber is just run on the poles or conduits in the streets. For 5G, antenna placement has to be negotiated. And since 5g signal has limited range, antennas have to be literally everywhere. It was tough enough placing 4g antennas that propagate well. Imagine 10x the number of antennas! Communities will just love it!!!!!

"I find it laughable that people are continually posting negative things about a potential money make for their employer. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you."

Uhhhhh... when you're laid off -- that hand is no longer feeding you. Right now, 5G is a mess. Nobody has a clue how to make it work, and/or doesn't want to spend the money. What there is of it, is a cobbled together mess, without a hint of any kind of standard. Verizon's response is... get rid of the people who might have the ability to get it up and running and replace them with cheap foreign labor. What could possibly go wrong?

5g standard is not even out yet.

technology and processes need to be perfected before rollout in NY.

people should get by now that first to market does not mean best.

Fake because it's out of franchise? One fiber has laid more miles of fiber in the past three months than wireline Union has in 2 years

Verizon was barely able to keep the agreement for building out FiOS in New York because of all the red tape and labor costs. You have many municipalities village who refuse to give you access or want their pockets stuffed with bags of cash. Right now there are people crying wolf about having wireless antennas attached on their poles.

After the dump wireline and the union.

This is what they are doing all the garbage for.

PS, good luck to our union friends, your union might stop the garbage that is happening to IT.

5G is starting to remind me of the FIOS rollout - only available in cities and larger suburbs... Will folks 50mi + from a major city have a true 5G? Or will it be enhanced 4G presented as 5G?
