For those that want to stay, is anyone concerned about the possibility of being RIF’d with no severance package since they opted not to take the package?

Yes. I’m concerned that my director won’t be able to hold on their laughter as they tell me my last day is December 28th and I’ll get nothing.
Will it really happen? Probably not but I know they want to get rid of some people if they don’t take it and give them nada
I'm in agreement with the prior post, never take the first offer. The next RIF is guaranteed to be 4×4, the one after that 5×5, eventually they'll bring out the enormous lottery winner checks, pensions and gold watches. Hold on for one more day.
I was told they are not obligated to give us sh-- in a riff so get your fake optimism and get it out of your a--!
Like most of us, I worry about what happens Jan 1...workload, RIFs, fulltime night shift? I'm in NA and things are already abysmal in that they have taken over our lives. Who wants to work like this with no answers about future from the company. Dangling sh--ty future packsges is BS.
I think the company knows they won’t get enough volunteers and are banking on that. If they have to RIF you they save by not giving away the big package.
Never take the first offer. Stick around get paid more, and perhaps if not enough leave, they will sweeten the deal. OR worst case scenario, you work a little longer get that tap on the shoulder and recieve the standard severance.
Just had a conference call with my VP in Basking Ridge. He told me only 4000 managers put in for the package. The company wants 44,000. They’re moving forward with director’s vice president etc. first-quarter. There will be an Eisp for the craft first-quarter 2019. There also talking about adding a second-year to medical to entice more people. THAN RIF !!!!!!!!
Think what was done initially to rebadged employees to Infosys. With 8 minute call and followed by a 10 minute call, they gave only 2 choices for the long term employees with either move to Infosys or quit. They said no severance for those 1400 US employees who were given the option to Infosys. Which would have been a less compensation than working for Infosys for more than a year. The luck or lawsuit helped these employees to get their severance package and that too severance was offered to retained employees at the same time. Their initial argument is that since you were offered the position, you are not eligible for severance. They sent some employees to Frontier without offering severance. They may play these things down the road where you go to outsourcing companies which will eventually replace you with cheap labor or quit and no severance.
No. It's all the same. The package is not very "enhanced" so if they RIF me in early 2019 it makes no difference. I'm staying.
Yeah I’m looking at 48 weeks of pay with this VSP or staying and getting 35 with the standard. I’m taking my chances and staying. Plus the whole “you can never come back” thing is a deal breaker for me since I’m in sales and could see a position opening in the future I may want to come back for... good luck to everyone! Crazy times
Martha on the daily calls said a couple of things. If the timing is not right don’t take the package. She also said there are no plans to change the standard 2 weeks per year severance. Maybe in 10 years she said. The company can do anything of course but I think this is a bunch of overblown fear mongering. If you are ready to go go. If not, stay. This isn’t sinister.
