Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No future for older employees at AT&T

Older workers (over 40) are obvious targets for layoffs because their salaries are higher. Plus if the company can lay them off before they are eligible for retirement benefits, it's a cost savings in the long run.

Is there somebody who honestly didn't figure out this by now? If you are over 40, you should be actively looking for a new job. There is no future for you at AT&T.

Agree totally. Many of the folks who got hit in the last round of layoffs were within a few years of hitting the rule of 75.

What I cannot figure out is that the AARP is such a powerful lobbying force and why has NOTHING been done to combat the rampant age discrimination all over corporate America, but especially prevalent at behmouths such as T.

EEOC is worthless. The T legal team and managers just lie in the hearings. The EEOC reps are so obviously on the company's side they are likely accepting bribes. Even with my mountain of evidence , they ruled against me so I was screwed twice. So now they get the sh--ty performance from me that they caused. praying for a surplus.

If you are under a CWA contract, the layoffs are by seniority. If you have 20 or more years, you are safe unless they surplus your entire group. You could still bump into another job if you wanted to stay with T.

A LAWYER FOR WHAT? RETENTION FEES ARE CONSIDERABLE HIGH FOR LABOR DISPUTES, AS THE EEOC IS AS INEFFECTIVE AS EVERY OTHER GOVERNMENT IDENTITY.

The best way to deal with age discrimination is to make it a crime punishable with prison sentence. Purposely laying off people due to age and not skill hurts the US economy. IBM is being sued for age discrimination for laying of 20k older employees.

Most careers are a dead end here, the company options?

1- they bring the recently graduated meat for unpaid inter ships (exploitation of the youth)

2 -By offshoring, contracting, H1B Visas, Stealth Layoffs,

3- And actively getting rid of older workers (Ageism thrives- promotions and hiring),

4-The good jobs are always filled before they are posted, (Nepotism)
