Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

At&t culture and HBO

Is there any chance that the numbers driven culture of At&t will not bleed over into HBO? I cannot imagine quality content creation if it does. In my organization, you really do not have to produce anything of value or resolve any issues. You just have to produce numbers. You can be a stellar technician with "bad" numbers and you will be constantly coached. You can be a horrible technician that fixes nothing and just passes the buck with "good" numbers and you will be praised.

"Is there any chance that the numbers driven culture of At&t will not bleed over into HBO?"

Well, it isn't going to happen in the immediate future.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/appeals-court-hear-u-justice-194603582.html

"AT&T has said it would manage Time Warner’s Turner cable television networks as part of a separate business unit until February 2019 or the conclusion of the government's appeal."

AT&T filed an 8-K attesting that Time Warner would be managed with a "firewall" between its operations and AT%T's operations.

After the Court of Appeals, who knows, maybe the Justice Dept will go to the Supremes. That'll delay integration of Time Warner into AT&T.

I think because of the CNN aspect, that the federal government doesn't care about the likelihood of success in their appeal - they just want to drive up costs of this merger.

As long as the spreadsheets look good. I have 2 DirecTV sales this month, my peer has 12. I have a 0% cancel rate, my peer is around 80% cancel rate. Guess who is getting coached and which is getting promoted next month.

What talent ? Real talent has left, what remains is told to install the latest and greatest with no hands on training, no tech sharing of knowledge. All we get is a PDF file to download ! Now go do your job !!! What ever ........

Didn't Sir John Stankey declare in his first speech to Hollywood that he wanted quantity over quality?

They want numbers - period.

Does not matter how much is c-ap as long as there is enough of it to coat enough customers to keep us off the bottom.

What is more likely is that once the HBO Hollywood crowd starts dealing with the ancient email system we run, the ridiculous time reporting programs, the forced training with no relevance whatsoever, the constant At-This-Time changes in supposed policies - when the heaving iron bureaucracy train of AT&T starts rolling - expect a mass migration of talent to flee to other content companies.

I give HBO 10 years under this company before it become the next Sears and Roebuck.

If they try, expect the same bleed off of talents that happened after the buyout of Directv. Two years after the Tip and Ring Gurus bought us, over 30 percent of the producers at Directv left for a more sane environment.

They have to keep content and tech separate.

I cannot imagine quality content creation if it does.
