Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

More people are going to opt for the voluntary separation package than you think.

Word is that Google is making a play to buy Verizon Wireless. Employees need to be reduced.

Don't rule out Google or the Wireless side being sold. Hans obligation is to the stockholder and not the customer/employee/history. If selling the VZ wireless database to Google and leasing back the same facilities that VZ wireless are already leasing then it could be a good stock move. The Wireless is nothing more than a customer database. With VZ closing/converting company stores, selling towers, etc. then all that is left are employees that can be out sourced ( many of them anyway ), let go, and the customer database. The value is in the customer database and that is a database the many companies would love to control.

In a case like this then Verizon Wireless would cease to operate under their brand and assume a Google brand such as G-Talk ( or whatever ). Wireline would be reorg'd for the time being awaiting for the 2024 copper deadline and then maybe it would be merged into Google also.

Many opportunities lay at the feet of Mr. Vestberg. What he takes remains to be seen.

And in related news, Tesla buys Porta John, world leader in temporary sanitation.

..... and now we know why the move to G-Suite. >

The problem with all of VZW being sold to Google is that the wireless side, anymore, is pretty much nothing more than a brand name. Verizon have sold their towers and are closing stores or migrating them over to franchise so about all that is left is the customer base. Despite what the wireless folks think they really get nowhere unless they go through wireline equipment and offices. That is just the way it is.

There may be a merger of sorts but even that is doubtful. Unless of course Google wants to keep the connection to the house. I can see where the company might sell after 2024 due to legally being able to get out of copper but no time sooner than that.

Still have to find a way to separate the wireline carrier equipment and fiber that transports the wireless signal.

I think OP makes a logical point on Google or some other company buying VZ.

  1. VZ is hell bent on getting tens of thousands off the book. Why ? No buying company would want

to be burdened with employees that are of no use to them.

  1. VZ finally agreed to offer the same generous package to employees being re-badged to Infosys.

Why ? VZ doesn't want a lawsuit brought on by disgruntled re-badgees and at the same time

trying to sell itself to another company. Who would buy a company and inherit a legal mess.

  1. The thousands of IT employees that are accepting this offer include SMEs with priceless

knowledge of VZ systems. Yet its ok for VZ to lose these people ? Why? Buying company most

probably has better IT (in their opinion) and will just junk any new IT projects in VZ and design

and create it themselves.

In light of this, some of you guys should search for the stock holdings of the higher-ups. If they're

holding on to VZ stock, or even buying more, then something's afoot ! Remember, when a company

buys another company - the shares of the company that got bought usually shoots up in value.

Hmmmm, maybe I should hold on to VZ stock then.

That is not going to happen. Too much debt and legacy costs, and too many in VZ management still think in terms of legacy telecom. Even if Google wanted an easy way into 5G, there is no way to successfully integrate legacy telco employees and management into Google culture. The lack of culture fit alone would kill the deal for any silicon valley deal.

The inheriting company wants to inherit as few former employees as possible, Google would want the network assets from Verizon Wireless.

remember microsoft and nokia phones. That was a big loss for microsoft. I don't think google will want to make the same mistake.
