Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are we putting a target on our backs?

Are those of us who decide to turn down the offer going to have a target on our back from that point on? I really want to say "no, thank you," but I'm scared that once I do my days here will be numbered anyhow and I'll just end up with less than the offer is right now.

Am I just being paranoid?

Anybody with a badge that has a little red check mark on it is a target for getting laid off.

I suppose, if you have not prepared yourself, that target on your back might just be the uniform for you and all the other Target employee trainees?

everyone has a target and is expendable. Due what is best for yourself. It has zero impact.

No. Everyone has a target on their back regardless.

I am more worried that saying 'yes' would put a target on your/my back.

@nii, I do not take advice from an English-speaking adult who lives under the delusional belief that “irregardless” is a perfectly cromulent word but, if you feel embiggened by using it, by all means, have at it.

I don't think it's putting a target on your back. The company has done a ton of research and analysis to determine how many people they want to cut and how many they should make the offer to to get to that number. They not only know that some people will not accept it, they count on it. More people will accept than they can afford to let go, so you aren't making anyone mad by saying no thanks. But you have to look at it like this is not only the writing on the wall, it's big, neon, glittery writing with arrows and stuff. Your job is not safe. They don't HAVE to do this to cut people. Involuntary cuts will continue indefinitely. So you need to determine how prepared you are to leave, how much money you're being offered, and how that amount compares to what you make in a year. Best of luck to you.

Well if you decide not to volunteer and let go later which is a possibility. It will be the normal sevrence package and not the enhanced one.

If you volunteer and are not selected but let go later before June 28th of next year anyway you will still get the enhanced.

But honestly in my opinion, for those who want to to stay may want to motivate others to take the package. Because if not enough volunteers it will just be business as usual and involuntary cuts

you'll go crazy trying to think of what the company will do. The rebadging is exhibit A and this type of strategy will be the norm going forward.

You dont need to over think. Just do whatever seems prudent to you. There are so many variables that there is nothing you can do to make the company keep you or release you

Well they can't get rid of all employees at once so would think if you don't take the offer you will still have some time. Hopefully if you stay the 8 month package will still be offered if you get laid off.

If you want to stay, make a plan that will benefit you irregardless of the package deal. Use your tuition assistance, call Fidelity and discuss your savings strategy, update your resume, interview prep, etc. These things will benefit you either way.
