Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Empty coachings

I wanted to ask if you would label an empty coaching as when your report to pulls you in after being gone for your days off and days 3-4 people complained about you when you were gone and then when you ask for names and account numbers they bulk and say it wasn’t that many and they only know of a couple but won’t give you them to speak to it but then still document it and don’t list their names AT ALL for you to address it? Then a few weeks later they make the same claim and have “no” names or accounts as well and put that into a coaching? This sounds like papering of ones file cause you don’t have anything of true substance so create a fasade?

I understand what you are saying. You work in customer service , so do I. The problem is no matter how hard you work or how good a job you do, if the customer says they didn't like you - you get called on the carpet. If the customer has a ridiculous expectation of a free iphone for a one hour svc outage and gives you a low score -you get blamed. If a tech no shows your appointment and you can't magically get a tech out there in five minutes and gives you a low score -you get blamed. The list goes on & on . Its cheaper to fire people than lay people off and the company will find any excuse to get rid of a good, hard-working employee just to save a buck. Its not you , its the deathstar.

lets not be so picky I get the gist of what they are saying. I have read similar things on the blog from people who have experienced a sudden change in their performance. I believed them but thought they were anomalies. well I had my own experience with that recently that makes we wonder. I will see how it plays out. my cynical/pessimistic/conspiratorial side says it appears to be a plan. I'm not worried really. maybe I am too confident in my "plan b" we will see. with almost 37 years int the industry and almost 25 at ATT its time to move on. Many of my contemporaries who were around when I started back in 1981 have been laid off so I am blessed to have remained in the industry so long. I wish all the people who remain the best in a radically changing industry. the two major players are going on completely different paths, time will tell who is the wiser run company . when I leave this company I will no longer be in the telecom industry and I am really looking forward to it. I will be in an industry that is much larger that the telecom and that still treasures personal touch.
