@V6iC4Sb-2eel - There are cases where a severance was signed, the person sued for age discrimination, won the court case for a six figure dollar amount, and the company just took their severance payment back. The "victim" still came out ahead in a big way.

It this if true, I am one of many that would accept this generous offer. I have worked hard for this company for 20+ years and appreciate the opportunities, even if I can’t understand their direction. The leadership is of a different culture that shove what they think our customers and employees want, but have no real understanding of our business, employees or customers.

1fhj.......I am hearing, that you are correct but I know you already knew that. Thanks for the heads up!

The whole idea of the severance offer is to get your signature on the waiver which prevents you from suing the company for any type of discrimination and a number of other things. You don’t get the severance if you don’t sign.

Since some people might gamble with a lawsuit if the severance gets cut back too much, I would be surprised to see them mess with it too much.

Buyouts, RIFs and reorgs coming for sure this year

@V6iC4Sb-2vak of course it's true! Why do you think people are so miserable working here since they get lifetime severance and medical after 6months? I asked Santa this year to bring me $10million this year and the Easter Bunny too!

FYI: A whistleblower is a person who learns of unethical or even illegal activity within their company or government, and reports or refuses to participate in it. While whistleblowers aren’t always famous, they do play an important role in holding companies and governments accountable for wrongdoing.

@2ptz, in reading your reply, in retrospect, I was painting with too wide a brush, and making unfounded generalizations based on one individual, which was very unfair, on my part.

My apologies.

However, it still amazes me that this man for some unknown reason remains protected by his superiors and has not been properly compelled to truly adjust his behavior despite the widespread complaints on record. We just get lip service. It is wrong and it is disgusting, what’s allowed to continue.

Bullies I have, and continue to be able to, deal with. This is something different, an anomaly that will continue to go unaddressed until it’s ugliness one day gets fully exposed and heads roll because of the cover-up.

Your foreman sounds like a jerk and I would imagine there are very few like him but that has nothing to do with a specific age group. We have a code of conduct and he could just be flat out fired so I doubt they would come up with this whole buyout to get rid of a few.

I work for a foreman who has a penchant for labeling almost everybody he contacts either a r----d, a fag, or an id--t.

Perhaps it’s wise to financially compel a certain age group that includes some folks such as him, a person who still retains an outdated Archie Bunker mentality, and who relentlously continues to disgustingly rant on libelously by slurring almost all of the hard-working individuals who have the displeasure of having any contact with him, to leave quietly, before the lawsuits start piling uo.

This individual has been asked repeatedly to discontinue his out of line disparaging treatment, yet he seems to steadfastly believe his outlandish meaness is normal BAU behavior in the real world?

I heard if you worked for VZW for at least six months, it's lifetime severance, and medical.

Any truth to that?

If this is true, the are already controlling how many people would leave. They could make an offer to people with 30+ years, 25+ years. They know exactly how many people fit into the 20+ years category and that is how many they are willing to lose. They lost 21,600 in 2003 with an offer and never missed a beat. I believe that they want to go more towards contractors. So, each person who takes a buyout, is a potential contractor.

Been hearing loads of rumors for the last 6 months. Sounds like there is something definitely brewing. While it is generous, I just don't see how they could control the volume that would volunteer. I'm guessing the offer is not as generous, but better than usual RIF. And with threat of only 30 day severance, might seem like a bargain. However, you have to think about prior RIFs if you had maximum severance of 35 weeks, plus prorated VIP, and can collect unemployment. This would be voluntary so definitely no unemployment. I'll believe whatever may be when I see it. This is probably the 10th different buyout description so I think full details are still unknown.

Also, at a time when they are promoting 5G, they do not want to anger any states that they may need favors from for the build by putting thousands of people on unemployment. Don't forget, they got an almost $17 billion dollar tax cut. Maybe this is how they are spending it. No lawsuits, no angered politicians.

If they want to target those with high salaries and severance which most likely = high age, not sure they could just rif as age is a protected class for descrimination. May want to look up adea.

Right, joining the company in1997 and wanting to leave soon would be almost as bad as being 6 years away from your points in 2005 and vz suddenly out of the blue freezing your pension.

You fools, they could RIF the same volume and not offer any package.

I don’t see anyone who might be eligible thinking it’s too bad, but rather shock that it could be so generous. For those not eligible or unable to take the rumored buyout offer, a future new policy of 30 days severance is certainly very bad.

So 20 years and it's 60 weeks severance plus medical. 19 years 11 months and it's too bad, maybe one day you'll get 30 days severance.

Are any others able to say this looks likely, and maybe add the logic for such an offer? As someone in management well longer than 20 years it seems counter to many years of being far less generous to those who have survived through the years. I guess I can just wait and see, however, if this occurs it would be a bit shocking to plan for, and seems they are quite determined to have a significant layer of older employees leave the business.

If the SM’s are gone then obviously the sales reps are going to have to do their jobs at the same time having higher/harder quotas and less traffic. Gee what could go wrong.

If Verizon is going to go all indirect, just do it. Let us get on with our lives.

I’m not doing twice as much work for less or no commission.

@1fhj, your tone sounds amazingly mocking.

It seems to be an incredibly generous offer, too good to believe, in fact.

Why are you being such a Debbie Downer?

C’mon @1fhj, are you so blinded as to your value that you’re personally claiming that sitting on your fat a-- monitoring the people that are actually producing value is supposed to garner you a paycheck into perpetuity?

You are so un-self-aware.

Be grateful you weren’t kicked to the curb years ago.

A technicians tablet has replaced you.

You’re getting a going away present. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. The scam’s over Johnny, it’s over!
