Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How is this OK?

A guy I work with was laid off this week, and I'm not even sure it's been a month since he was promoted. What was the point of it then? Some kind of a sick joke?

He is not layedoff yet. He was only informed he was in a group that was affected. I have been in this group a few times. The last time I was in an affected group they offered MVO. My group had 3 people put in for it (MVO) and they were all told no.

They’ve been promoting folks sine the 80’s just so they can fire them without union interference. Nothing new.

@nfz: that is an accurate statement. Training, patents, performance are not predominant factors.

Geoloc supersedes all of those

Individual performance is no longer a factor in job security. I've know many friends who were highly rated (one even the top performer for his entire AVP organization), BUT, got the pink slip because he was not close enough to a 'collaboration' zone.

Probably promoted him to lay off and protect somebody else in that department. The games management play with real lives.
