Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Pension

ATO Layoff Announcement Monday 8/6/18 - I have some empathy to the stress created on peoples lives with the constant axe over the head. Randall or the John's have no empathy or more than a passing thought on their bad decisions and the impact to thousands of people or in T terms - workers.

There is an experience and knowledge drain taking place. 4th and above are so far out of touch with reality. There is no one to replace the lost experience. There are no firm business rules to follow. Its only for the next quarter earning. T is more like a ponzi scheme than a company at this point.

There are some good efforts taking place, but most of the work lacks full circle understanding or vision of how to implement, due to the reorgs and lack of planning. Descriptions of the work are a hodgepodge of free thought and high level concepts that utilize big picture descriptions. No understanding of the basics and how to make it happen. Just some forecast of revenue that a marketing person has created to give them a push due to the inflated projections and unrealistic schedule. They get a bonus for the feel good projections and are promoted before any work or revenue is complete or realized.

This is only about executive bonus structures and payouts. Lots of shell games.

Take your out if offered - take your pension.

The pension will be part of the debt restructuring that will come.

I thought the pension was fully funded and would be fenced off from any bankruptcy actions.

@UuL4HnZ-1fdq are really that clueless? I know many union members that have been laid. I have been here, as a union members, for 20 years and the union membership is down drastically. There has been a layoff every year for the past 6 years. The fiber build will be ending this year and the cuts to the union workers will be major. The company has already abandended u erse and no one has a phone line eithier. Cell stores are closing since you can pretty much go anywhere and get a cell phone the call to have e it activated. No one is safe at the T. Oh..all the company has to due is declare backrupcy and all inion contracts are voided and pensions wiped out.

Craft Position: Trade union combining workers who are engaged in a particular craft or skill but who may work for various employers and at various locations. Formed to improve wage levels and working conditions, craft unions were established in Britain and the United States in the middle of the 19th century.

Regarding the pension, I got walked out a couple years ago and was advised to move the pension as there is no guarantee T will pay ( they will not pay in case of death) so I moved it to an IRA at the bank.

What is a ‘craft’ position?

Don’t worry about the pension. ATT is subsidized by the government and has been for many, many years. Anyone who wants to stay employed here can as long as they show up and keep their nose clean. You may not have the job or the pay you want but you’ll have a paycheck. I am referring to craft employees of course.

Managers are expendable and they knew that when accepting the position and deciding not to work anymore. If a customer needs a problem solved a craft employee performs the task. A manager will decide if it was done fast enough. Hell, more craft employees have college degrees than managers anyway.

Excellent points! Sorry me guy on the Warner side in charge of programming completely contradicted what Stankey said. I’m sure the top talent on the Warner side will be bailing out over the ne t year. We need cEO and board shake up

I find it strange they put Stankey in charge of TW and the entertainment division. People in entertainment are very creative people and Stankey is a life long phone company guy. AT&T is very 'top down' in their thinking and he told them that HBO needs to develop much more content. You just don't tell creative people to do this. This is like telling Eric Clapton to write 5 top 10 songs and have them ready to sell to the public by 'end of business' today. You just don't 'order' creative people to write hit songs or hit HBO shows. They should have found someone who worked and was successful in the entertainment business.

More management fail. Try hiring a CEO based on merit, and lose the one put in place by his father in law.
