Why is my manager still denying there'll be layoffs tomorrow when it has been pretty much officially confirmed by now? What's the point?

My response was about someone demanding that someone else not do their job and not follow their bosses and then they wonder why people get fired. Hilarious, childish and immature.
It’s simple. Do your job. If you dont do it right, you are gone. Simple
Management has no protection, i.e. Union, so if they are told not to announce, confirm or defer, they will as told. Otherwise you may see the surplus but they will see themselves being fired. It is part of the OP78 rules.

The fact that you question why he is doing his job and what is required of him is a testament to the lack of respect you have for your job. Nothing is owed to you. Everyone is expendable in every job. You are easily replaceable.
Did they deny it or not comment? or did they defer etc? There is a big difference.
