Well, based on the unannounced, unexpected layoff yesterday (8/9/18) that blindsided those affected, I would say that this isn't true.

That rumor on the size of the package is not even close to accurate. Severance packages will get smaller over time, not bigger. They are pretty generous though. Generally, two weeks pay for every year with the company.
No rif before iPhone launch........
August rif is real but it isn't targeting the older generation but will be cutting across. This is also happened with the credo guy took charge, right after the strike.
I doubt that the framework on this original post is even remotely true, things must be really bad as that would be a huge hit to the company financials and outlook for company. Nice carrot, but likely a stick instead and even remotely targeting a swath of the staff with those service years would be shocking.
Even better, they will provide salary and benefits for life, NOT.
Most likely not that generous.
rankings, skillset, job elimination, just saying there's several ways to get around this and most managers that have been one for a while have seen multiple flavors of it. Hey if it happens with the cash out that would be fantastic but consider it an extremely unlikely scenario that hasn't happened since the great voluntary walk out purge of 2003.
@UpQwRTt-1fkn - Can you elaborate on this? Maybe give some examples??? Thanks in advance...
someone was clearly drinking last night. the topic has nothing to do with the actual RIFs, (yes they are going to happen), the topic is about the compensation for said RIFs
"not sure where this rumor started but it's complete nonsense."
The new id--t CEO laid off half of Ericsson. Face it, he's a hired gun -- that's what he was brought in to do.

without getting into specifics there are plenty of ways to get around the age issue. Any manager who has participated in RIFs before knows what I'm saying.
I heard something similar last week. 3 different but close scenarios. I didn't hear anything about the medial though. And, one of the rumors I hard is that you had to have 30 years. Why is it nonsense? I thought that at first too but what better way to get rid of the oldest people with the most time and not have a discrimination suit brought against them?
