Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Northeast SSR layoff this week?

I’ve seen rumors of a full SSR surplus for the northeast. Any truth to them?

I can honestly say as being an ASM, my SSRs have been essential to our daily operations. From back office tasks (checking in inventory, DDT, SIM card checks, merchandising, monthly cash/sim/serialized/non serialized count, trades in/buybacks, creating tickets, etc) these are all tasks that allows ASMs to focus on sales while our SSRs manage operations. So perhaps not all stores utilize their SSRs to full capacity, but it’ll be a huge loss to our operations.

It may not be a big loss in YOUR store & maybe most stores. Big in our area - which is a major metropolitan area, the SSRs do everything except write the schedule. We keep the store in operation.

Anyone who is not a SSR doesn’t understand the importance of serialized inventory control. Without someone on top of it daily- the entire sales process could crumble in 3-10 days.

Reps aren’t able to sell phones, chaos begins because no one is able, or will fix it. Right now I have to stand over a manager to make sure the fix is done as soon as it is found, or else it will get pushed to the side- forever.

And to the person who said they would rather lose 2 RSCs than 1 SSR- I have been personally told that in the past. You know what you are facing, and the managers also have a feel for who will stay on as a RSC and who won’t. That former SSR is going to be the one everything is dumped on & still have numbers to make.

I’m no fool- I’ve been here many years in different positions. I have been offered RSC more times than I can count. Don’t need that aggravation in my life. Those reps come to me multiple times a day venting. We have gone from 30 reps to 10 and all but 2 of those want out. And funny thing-everyone who leaves is on cloud 9 as they take that final walk out the front door.

Yes I’m leaving- no one has my personal phone number by design, I have been planning this for years.

And I’m never looking back-

It won’t be a loss in my store all my SSR does is stand at the door. The managers do all the counts and checking in inventory along with the resets. I’d gladly take another RSC to lighten my load.

Why? Because you would actually have to do some work instead of relying on every other postion to do it for you, probably another useless manager!

I’m going to be honest. I rather lose 2 RSCs than an SSR. Maybe big ole Randy should take a paycut but we all know how greedy he is.

It’s most definitely official. I just was on the call. Sorry guys.

Good news is you at least get a RSC roll.

How is this announcement to be communicated? Some people are off on Wednesday....Managers always have their facts wrong when delivering info 3rd hand.

Are the RSCs already aware of this?

No SSRs do not work at a new age doughnut shop- no one actually remembers what the acronym stands for - but they are the ones that clean the toilets.

I was told that it will be nationwide eventually.

AT&T has to give 60 day notice. We'll see what happens on Aug 1st.

Things are constantly changing and evolving at AT&T. Positions come and go, new positions and business units are created. But the one constant year after year is that the SSRs are going to be eliminated & it has yet to happen.

This whole conspiracy theory to get SSRs to leave is the stupidest thing——-people move on, it’s called LIFE.

AT&T as a giant global company probably doesn’t even know what a SSR is- AT&T doesn’t know a lot of things you would think they should because it’s not on the radar. SSRs might clean toilets for all they know.

I switched to IHX because I was sick of the rumors and waking up every day wondering if I had a job or not. Best decision I've made.

Good luck to all SSR's out there still dealing with this crap.

If SSR is getting lay off, i don't see it being exclusive to the NE...it will be nationwide...

CWA also hasn't received any notification of any layoff for SSR, at&t is required to give the union a 7 day notice of such...although i think last time no notification was given.

At this point in time, this is about the 50th "SSR is getting layoff" thread. It's now become a meme....

Seriously, this is getting to the point where it's either people are just being haters about SSR's and just want them gone, or an artificial rumor to get current SSR's to leave their jobs out of fear they will be without a job.

I'm not saying this is exclusive to this site...i've had managers call me, and tell me the "news" that i'm going to get laid off in X weeks or months. It's not the same people...it's different people from different areas all hearing the same rumor..and nothing ever happens. It's really coming to the point where i wonder if upper management, i don't mean store managers, this is probably above DOS, that create these false rumors to artificially lower SSR headcount without requiring a layoff. I've personally seen SSR's switch to RSC because they thought they were going to get laid off. Hell some even went part-time or switched to a different company because they swore it was going to happen. They have called me, with the same rumor, "hey did you hear that next month we are getting laid off"...even on TSPACE people have posted about it...it's crazy....It's like if it happens it happens, but don't listen to a rumor from some low-end manager that probably heard it from an RSC that read it here.

If it’s true, then why limit it to the Northeast? Pull your latest non-sellable report & you can VERY QUICKLY identify stores without SSRs- RED EVERYWHERE! Someone brought up in Tspace that all their reps were being “required” to take MICA training- then MAGICALLY a trainer chimed in & said “ it was NOT a required class for a RSC, it’s available to anyone who wants to learn back office.”

YEAH LIKE I HAVE HAD LOTS OF EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER PERSONS IN THE STORE WANTING TO LEARN MY JOB-MANAGERS ESPECIALLY. (Insert sarcasm)

Now with PLE you can identify who is taking the MICA class- RSCs in areas that are clearly having issues- according to the reports- FLORIDA, NORTH CAROLINA, OKLAHOMA and it goes on.

In the meantime in our area no one is budging, except the RCSs that are tired of being beat down, and their positions are not being back filled, so now we have a stupid ratio of SSRs to RSCs.

And let’s get real everybody - SSRs, Managers, ARSM & DOS plus we should throw in VPGM and upper “Leadership”- the demands on the SSR position has been reduced 75 - 90%, depending on traffic or lack of it.

I just don’t get it, but if AT&T wants to pay me to be a vapid air head-more power to me.
