Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

PTO

Do you know anybody who actually uses all of their PTO days? I was talking to a few coworkers and I realized none of us actually use even half of what we're entitled to out of fear of being seen as slackers and put on the list for the next round of layoffs.

Talk about being well trained by a company...

My PTO was taken away because of being short staffed last October then it was the blackout period and I lost 5 days. I was an ASM and my director requested an exception from HR and HR denied it saying there cannot be any cary over vacation nobody can approve it for ASMs! My DOs made it up to me in other ways but couldnt do anything about the vacation.

I am a level 2 manager and encourage my managers and their employees to use all their PTO.

  1. They earned it.

  2. Burned out employees are less productive.

  3. Employees who take PTO are generally less stressed and happier and stick with the company longer.

  4. It helps recruit better people to work on my team because we respect work life balance.

  5. I appreciate their hard work and it is the right thing to do.

Anyone who does not use all earned time off has a real work/life balance problem. I would lose a couple days back in early years but last 10 or so used every one every year. No job is so important you cannot disconect on regular basis.

Use it. It's your time. No company will fly its flag at half mast because you worked yourself to death.

I worked for AT&T for twenty-two years before retiring. I used every day available except for one day that I didn't realize was available at the time. I still regret that one lost day. The mental beatdown ended the day I left the office a few years ago.

You're just a number and worth about as much as a few sheets of toilet paper to management.

Someone reeeeeally let’s IHX get them worked up and it is HILARIOUS because they drag it into every post that is made. Somehow, someway, IHX will find its way in a post by someone who is super bitter about the job position. Get a life!

To answer the question, been with the company for 10 years and yes, I use all of my PTO.

Just work in IHX and every day is like a vacation doing nothing but driving around all day giving away free phones! Of course you will lose your job when surpluses happen but will get plenty of rest in the mean time while you “work”

Yep alot of management direct reports, (the title manager is just to make you a non bargained) individual contributor and lose PTO and vacation every year. in 2013 December, I was put on plan. I had over 3 weeks of vacation left. Guess what, I pulled it out of my backside hitting every single metric which was HARD but I lost all that time that I could of used with my family. My boss was like, well...I guess we are going to have to take you off plan and SHE was not to enthusiastic about it (guess I was on the hit list). You earn your vacation/PTO but there is no grace for productivity lost when your using it. The best part is when leadership says on the year kick off call, "I hope everyone is recharged for the New Year"!! NO F#%K TARD...I'm NOT!!
