I was expecting us to get hit hard, but I haven't heard of a single person surplused (that I know of). Did we just not get hit yet?

You're playing with the org chart to make a false argument. O'Hern is an SVP. Parisian is a President, and CSO used to be one of the SVP/VP orgs in Tech Dev. Melissa Arnoldi moved O'Hern out of Tech Dev and made him a direct report. To be fair and honest with the comparison, you should still compare his group to his peer level SVP and VP groups which were his peer organizations within Tech Dev - not compare him to his entire previous parent organization. Many of those SVP/VP orgs have from 500 - 2000. If they each have to contribute a percentage, so should O'Hern. He should not get a pass because he moved out of Tech Dev to a skip-level direct report position on an org chart.
I wonder if it is piece-work, they get a certain amount of money for every U.S. head they eliminate?
Every group I know of lost at least two people, or about 2% of the group. So Don is on they way to achieving his goal. Maybe he will get a bigger bonus.
Tech dev under Parisian has about 9300 employees. It has about 30,000 total (including contractors).
CSO is part of the ATO organization under McElfresh. Just like Tech Dev.
I only brought up the org size, because others in this thread were wondering why CSO didn't get cut. Here are the ballpark employee counts for every direct report to McElfresh (not including assistants and chief of staff):
Fuestsch (Labs): 15K
Mair (AT&T Operations): 50K
Parisian (Tech Dev): 30K
Porter (Strategic Planning): 700
O'Hern (Chief Security Office): 700
Robertson (Field Operations): 70K
Stine (Chief Data Office): 2k
You see, all the meat on the bone is Labs, AT&T Operations, Tech Dev and Field Operations. I wouldn't be shocked if Strategic Planning or the Chief Data Office were spared as well. The smaller the org, the more impact a cut has.
No offense, but "I'm in CSO and can confirm . . ." doesn't carry the day.
And, this thread is about Pam Parisian's Tech Dev org. So, comparing CSO's 700 to ATO's 100K is silly.
There are several SVPs and VPs in Tech Dev who have less people or a just a bit more people than CSO.
All of our orgs are basically equal here, and when one gets a pass, it's reasonable for others to question that.
It is what it is, and life goes on, but that doesn't make it not so.
I work in CSO and can confirm there was nothing beyond some budget cuts. However, CSO might be one of the smallest orgs in ATO. O'Hearn only manages 700 people. Hell, Digital Life is twice that size.
ATO has over 100,000 people. CSO is a drop in the bucket.
No one made anything up. Your out of hand dismissal means you either don't want to believe it or don't want others to believe it. A quick look in webphone and simple check of recent hires will confirm it. It's been pretty blatant. Normally, nobody would care and it would get no more than a roll of the eyes. The resentment comes when it plays a role in decisions to participate or not participate in offers and FMPs. That affects people's livelihoods.
Close to 600 layoffs in the Sept-Oct time frame. I was one of them. These are full time employees. They are shifting resources away from technology and telecom to their new media business.
I think you need a new water cooler crowd, I do not think the nepotism comments are correct. There is enough wrong to criticize without making things up.
I heard the same thing about the CSO. He really knows how to work the system to his personal benefit. There were CSO people ready and willing to go, but that might have affected his personal hiring plans. O'Hearn had Melissa Arnoldi snowed and the new President of ATO is too busy learning his new role to notice. Those of us in other parts of ATO wonder why his peers are willing to cut more of their own to make the numbers while he gets a pass.
I got notice of being Surplussed this past Monday. I was on vacation in the middle of nowhere, and my classy boss left a voice message and texts that hit me a few days later. I still couldn't respond due to still being in the middle of nowhere.
CSO cut to the bone? Compared to what? Word around the water cooler is that their SVP has hired his whole family, and also his friends and neighbors kids. Sad to hear he had people who would have volunteered to go. So, the other ATO orgs will have to FMP extra to make the target numbers that could have been met with volunteers. I'm in one of those other orgs, but made it through this round. I feel for those who did not. Knowing some could have stayed if CSO participated and cut their volunteers loose really does s--k.
Bill O'Hern in CSO opted out of the VMO, probably because CSO is already cut to the bone and they are a little anxious, at this point in time, to outsource IT security. This s---s because numerous people were waiting to get a package so they could leave. O'Hern screwed us hard, thanks Bill.
Tech Dev and Tech Ops, as well as some in Labs. August notifications and off roll in October. They didn't get enough to take the meager Mgmt Voluntary Offer. Word is around 800 involuntary FMP'd across ATO. Well, except for CSO - their SVP got an exemption - not sure how that passed the smell test.
so if you suddenly get some instructions to "make yourself available" to contractors or off shore , just be aware. might be worth it to just quit now and tell leader-sh-- to go shove it up their a-- instead
H1B season - more to come
Suddenly there are a bunch of fresh offshore contractors showing up in WebPhone in TechDev organizations with deep employee cuts! This is the New World Order! What a bunch of lazy cowards in leadership who are totally incapable of figuring out a better solution that does not require the extent of job elimination and offshore "employee conversions" going on! F*ck them all!
There were layoffs in TechDev under Pam this month. . Folks have to be off payroll sometime in October. We were told Pam will not do 4th quarter reductions. So we should expect them 1st quarter 2019.
From what I heard there were about 500 people who got surplused in Tech dev including folks under Carlton, Satish org chain in the recent August cut. Mostly PM’s though.
Good point. Let all the 2018 projects finish, then layoff.
maybe a big one will happen 1st q 2019.
I have heard of one so far.
