@UM5R8fO-2rez - Most all layoff activity has been for non bargained (non- union represented) personnel. The recent ATO layoff also fell into this category. Though the union doesn't much care about you (and indeed are powerless to stop any layoffs), they certainly don't care about management layoffs.
Remember AT&T promised job creation with their mergers. Then the fake tax cuts which were a windfall to corporations like AT&T were touted as good for the company. Now employees are being laid off and H1B workers quietly being retained. Protest at Trump golf courses are a good idea. Highlights the ridiculous left versus right made-up narrative. Americans are being played. This is about the continued hollowing out of US middle-class.

It might be better to find out where the so called union is in all this. Seems like all they want is dues and avoid any answers. We have a downsize in the Ma department and the union said they would be working on it. Working on it????? Sure just keep quiet.
The union is notified 60 days before and has anyone ever been prewarned.
Politics aside, if you can actually manage to get a large protest together, that would be great. The company keeps these layoffs under a certain percentage each time so that they are not required to report a huge layoff. Any attention drawn to the fact that that they have been laying off steadily for a few years now couldn't hurt. And don't get me wrong, I understand the company can do whatever it wants. But like many, it's the doublespeak and hypocrisy that trouble me.

@wff, the CPI (consumer price index) which the govt uses to gauge the rate of inflation currently disagrees with your 4.6% rate of inflation. They run on a 12 month lagging basis. July ‘17 to July ‘18 shows an annual inflation rate of 2.17%.
Having said that, inflation beginning in January has increased from 2.13% and has spiked to 2.95% in July, by January ‘19 If all else stays reasonable, 2019 might see a CPI of 2.5%.-2.75%
Overall you are proven correct that take home pay is in the negative column, assuming a 2% annual pay increase which I believe to be accurate, the % you use to show a minus 2.4% is not.
To come out even, we’d need a 2.5% to 2.75% pay raise.

Your clueless, 4 years ago ATT started the downsizing of all wireline services. they offered a buyout in 2015 in all departments. A lot of people were totally unaware of the direction. The only thing ATT wants is wireless service and if you read the various sites you will see they are quickly moving in that direction including buying various service to stream via wireless. They have for about 2 years had a user installed wireless cell connected router that will supply phone, cell and tv services. How many know about that...not many. too many people only look at their own areas and not around the company. IF you think wireless is secure, thin again. The company is using contractors to work on many sites and at a lot less than paying an employee salary, benefits and office costs. They have started to widely close offices and many were hit in NJ, NY, CT and other northeast states. they are moving to the Midwest and very soon to the Southeast.
So you sound like a pure liberal progressive who is clueless on facts. Get off CNN and NBC and you will see reality. If you don't like the country get out. Go to somewhere the progressives pay 80% of their income and the government gives them free diapers.

My salary has not decreased at all. Sure its much smaller than the execs but so what? Stop this envy. Go do something that will increase yours not envy theirs.

AT&T has been planning to reduce their workforce since 09. Every year since they have had at least 3 headcount reductions. Remember- AT&T is a very LIBERAL company and like most liberals they don't care about anoyone. The leaders of the organization are HUGE hypocrites.

Actually, the economy IS doing great and America IS getting better. AT&T is downsizing based on their piss poor management. If AT&T had true leadership it's stock wouldn't be tanking and employees being let go.
