Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What will be gone?

Which roles and segments will be completely gone in the following two-three years?

Hopefully all the crybabies that come on here and wish the company fails will be gone.

Was at a skip level with a VP. 2020 is not the end of legacy services. DSL is still being sold in areas not Uverse green. There are still 6 million POTS lines and 1.5 million DSL subscribers. These numbers will continue to decline, but nothing is going away overnight.

There seems to be a lot of work TODAY on the west coast, it is a lot of different work , work that changes every year. I have never been so knowledgeable about the different crafts still needing tech attention as I am today.Pots,Dsl,Line/Sharing,Ipdslam,Hi-cap,Fiber Install,Fiber Repair,Service Orders, Clecs ,Uverse installs,Uverse Repairs,Bonded Pair installs, Bonded and Single Pair repairs,MDU installs plus all the odd ball routine tickets for repair that come in. It is difficult for me to imagine how ATT can dump all there responsibility and still function without upsetting their core customers and the politicians of the same customers.Just saying !

I don’t know about other regions but iefs in the Midwest has so much work right now. They are getting volunteers for 6 days and I am working 10 to 12 hours a day. Dtv is picking up, but still getting plenty of uverse tv orders too. Fiber is expanding rapidly in my area too.

My brother is a dtv contractor and he is on 6 days right now too basically letting him do as many jobs has he can do a day.

And those of you trying to sh-- on ihx need to put your big boy pants on and get over it. The guys/gals that work my area are great always helpful and bring our products and services to the customer.

To add to my migration comments below and because the retail group seems to think the make the world go round.

Every service you provide can be done online. I can order a phone, tv and internet online. I can activate a SIM online. The push for shipping products and customer self install will become easier and preferred.

Going to a retail sales office and standing in line to get the wrong service or options activated is going to be a thing of the past.

I knew opening this thread someone was going to mention IHX. Move on, stop being a low life and go do some soul searching.

The game plan that I see unfolding is a forced migration to streaming. If you were here when IPDSL kicked off you saw the forced migration from DSL. Services like Uverse are already being priced out of business by DTV. DTV will be force migrated to DTV NOW.

With the roll out of 5G, small cell and WLL the company is making every effort to have the customer receive all products over the wireless network.

While TFS/IEFS/wireline C&E will continue to lose customers they will never completely go away but they will be run as “skeleton crews”.

Selling the customer a hot spot will allow them to have Internet, home phone and video all over VoLTE/5G network.

The cost savings to the company no longer maintaining the majority of the copper network will be too much of a temptation for them to not cut it deep.
