Thread regarding Follett layoffs

This is H U G E

I saw this in another post that Follett sold B2B to Nebraska. I was laid off 3 years ago so don't know how the company is doing now, but wholesale used to carry the detail division when it came to profitability. Used books has always been the foundation for Follett profitability and success. Even more so with the online competition where which online site has the used book usually gets the sale. There are many separate departments supporting wholesale. Expect layoffs in HR, accounting, IT, leadership etc. Why would the board allow this to happen? Look at B&N results, MBS is very profitable for them. While it was difficult to be laid off, I did land an equal job at a growing company and I received raises every year since that time. I still enjoyed my time working at Follett and truly worked hard for Follett to be successful.

"And we are not to get books from b&t but back to NACS? What gives about that?"

Maybe there is someone in the organization who is smarter than all of the rest of us that could explain this?

RIP wholesale and thank you for the career start in such a humble and well respected company. FCR culture was unique, a throwback to the 1960’s until their merge into retail in ‘99. The office shut down multiple times per year to perform inventory and travel to perform book buybacks. Those who worked a buyback received a small bonus check, hand delivered by the company president, who knew you and your family. All gifts from vendors, some as large as vacations, were turned in then raffled off to employees at an all christmas party each year. From the bluebook to the Willhoite Classic the company was the epitome of class. Some asked why I didn’t leave or even look in the years that followed. Simple loyalty kept me and many FCR alumni wanting to help the company turn the page.

Laid off in 2016 and doing great in an exciting new role, proving 1) these skills must not be sooo outdated and 2) there’s life on the other side - jump in! RIP Wholesale and best wishes to all. Cheers!

It's hard to visualize no longer being in the wholesale book business. Magical faeries will put used books on our shelves.

So I guess we will use Nebraska guide for buyback? Follett stopped producing competitive wholesale prices years ago.

Nebraska doesn't have any money. Assets to debt are approaching 3 to one.
