Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Volunteer buyout for management

"I’m hearing rumors that Verizon is offering a volunteer buyout for management next month and if they don’t get the numbers needed they are doing another rif in November. If they offer I’m out."

Anybody knows if this is true? I'd accept it without thinking as well.

"No RIFs in the works at this time."

And you believe that?

no, a volunteer for a RIF and a buyout is NOT the same thing. Management who are riffed receive 2 weeks of severance for each year worked plus unused vacation days and STI (prorated if before eoy). If enough people volunteer then nobody is involuntarily RIF'ed.

this nonsense about sweetening the pot and some 'buyout' is different. It's not happening so stop dreaming. That c-ap ended in 2003

Regardless of what you call it say it how you want. Volunteer Rif or Buyout same damn difference. Either way you walk away with a lump sum sanity and our dignity. Point is they are offering it soon and who ever is left they will run risk of being rif by end of year. Obviously they can’t rif everyone left they need someone to run the business. But the managers left will have increased headcount and job duties for sure.

hans will keep dead weight management around while trying to RIF people that do actual work like IT

nobody is getting bought out. It's simple, they will ask for RIF volunteers. If there are not enough volunteers, people who didn't volunteer will be a part of the RIF pool. This fairy tale about buyouts to get rid of management is crazy. They don't need to do it and won't.

Geez.....ppq.....I listened to the whole segment....not asked at all (management buyout).....he was asked about selling or spinning Oath out to give employees some stake in the game....and the only other management question was how he and Lowell differ....I will say Hans was VERY uncomfortable in that setting and didn't handle most of the questions well at all....IMHO...

No RIFs in the works at this time.

Per all hands webcast this morning.

Of course, they can start planning tomorrow.

@UFWU56G-eov I doubt if a CNBC reporter would ask a question that had no truth to it. Sounds like if it isn’t a buyout then they’re just going to straight up FIRE them.

Hans said no management buyouts - just a rumor. Unclear if he was referring to Oath or company wide. He was on CNBC this morning discussing partnership with Google and Apple and was asked by the host about management buyout.

I still see job postings mainly for managers. Maybe different skill sets
