Retail Question, How is Everyone's Traffic?

Since there's really not a lot of areas for people to get this information except from this board so I do apologize if this is out of line. I was wondering if other retail corporate stores in other markets were experiencing a downturn in traffic. I was wondering if we as a collective group have forced out customers to other channels by having to beat them over the head with DirecTV every time they come into the store. Come into the store with do not disturbed turned on? Well let me tell you about 72 hour rewind, but first lets access your account. Want to buy a cable? Well first let me show you the quick-tune feature. By harassing our customer base we are forcing them to go to other avenues. They don't even have to go to other companies, they can go to a NR or even online. I wonder if the powers that be realize what is happening to the retail stores, or if they're just having us cut our own throats.

What about the Directv genie shortage? How many hundreds of dollars are rsc losing? Unbelievable a company like T would be without genies.

It has nothing to do with DTV.

There are a ton of different reasons why some stores are down and others are up. There seems to be an increase in AR stores in my area,

More so then ever..however that probably isn’t the real reason. AT&T aggressively pushed myAT&T and online sales and that has done some damage but the biggest damage has been Apple having the ability to do upgrades. I think that has been the biggest hit to our stores but aside from that online sales is just so much easier. Why deal with being sold everything under he sun after waiting for 20 min in a store with a rep that hates their job?

There are exceptions obviously

My store is a newer store and we took a ton of business from the surrounding stores. Our growth has increased year over year to the point where they are taking reps from the surround stores and dumping them into ours to help with traffic.

The first 2 years at the T, I tried to reject the acronyms- pet peeve, drove me crazy. Now many many years laters I’m using the acronyms just like all the other robotrons. It is ingrained in the culture & each Business Unit has its own abbreviations, so you will only know what they stand for if you have been associated with that unit at some point in your life. I have no association with Retail so I have no clue what NODR means & there are probably 200000+ employees that don’t know either.

Short answer we use abbreviations because that is the AT&T way.

Our store was put on NODR last month but now we are back to normal. Sales luckily came back up. Another store in our city is still on NODR!

Retail is slow due to DirecTV. They're trying to force DTV down everyone's throats by tying it to all promos. You can get better promos from other carriers without having to sign up for their TV services. And DTV service is mediocre at best. It cuts out every time there's a storm. DTV is killing AT&T.

Retail is very slow in my area. DTV is saturated so they have either had it before with a horrible experience or they do not want it. Head count is down hiring freeze. Coaching has gone to a whole new level even after the slamming of dtvnow to customers in some areas. If we have customer service, 3 party door to door, online, Walmart, dealers selling DTV it’s hard to get sales in retail right now. Most are struggling to make a crappy commissions check

In my area they have hired an aggressive door to door company to sell fiber, uverse, and dtv then usually while I am there installing an in home expert comes and sells the cell service. That might have something to do with it.
