Gatt rate for july

Gatt rate for July is 2.96....down from 3.13 at the start of the 2nd quarter. Predictions for the gatt rate for the rest of the year show it going down...all the way to 2.78 by December. My guess is that the tariff war that Trump is waging is looking bad for the economy, which in turn is going to lower the rate on the 30 year treasury bond. This means that our lump sum buyouts will be going up monthly until at least the end of the year! Now we just need to hope for an eisp so the senior people can leave.

If the mortality tables came into play, the older you are, the more you would lose. As terrible as this sounds, the way they use those tables is that the older you get, the less time you have to live, the less money you need. I am 60 and I lose about $1500 a month just from that, then the interest rate takes it's toll. So the younger people should lose less. Must be something else going on.

@1bvz: That’s what I would have thought, but theirs went down 6% and more, mine went down less than 1%. They are younger than me, so I don’t know if the mortality tables figure into it or what.

It goes down by percentage, not $$ per se',the more you have, the more you lose when it goes down.

@zmi

I would guess there is a difference in age and time of service.

Does anyone understand why my lump sum amount only went down $2000 when my co-workers amounts went down a lot more. Some were showing $30k down, some up to $50k.

@ dgj . Read what was said. The winning index is the PBGC. Look at the numbers. It went up. It however is still the winning index. The GATT is not and hasn't been for over a year. You should educate yourself it is your retirement.

Then why did my lump sum just drop by 10's of thousands?

The GATT rate does not currently matter. The current and recent, at least for the past 12 or so months winning rate is the PBGC rate. If the GATT where to go low enough in relation to the PBGC you would be correct. Remember we kept the winner of the 3 indices in the current labor agreement. The current winner is PBGC.
