No one is going to speak up to a President of an org. about her attitude. Heck people in my area are afraid to go to lunch because it means you aren't instantly available to someone's whim. Sad times in this company.

I missed the call. Was she really nonchalant? Why don’t people speak up more in these open mic calls ?

What is infuriating is the nonchalant way she announced it. Never taking into consideration the impact of her words on people's lives. Doesn't affect her so she could care less. At that level these managers have no clue how hard we all work & the sacrifices people make to feed their families & keep their job. Goes to show you how out of touch they are with reality.

Laying off older worker and streamlining younger college grad workers. It is simple. They just said it.

I think in this meeting they exposed their ultimate goals. At one point it was discussed how they are looking for volunteers, and we know what happens when there are not enough of them. At at another point, they discussed how they needed to streamline onboarding of new employees. Hmm.

My guess..... layoffs continue either way. And as history shows the layoffs will be the wrong jobs and wrong level. Someday AT&T might wake up. Maybe after TMO/Sprint merger. Mean time they are losing good employees who are leaving on their own.

Do we think if the merger goes through that layoffs will continue in such magnitude? Or only if the merger fails?

Sorry folks, but Most technology companies are doing exactly the same, very little U.S workforce Vs. Lots of APAC Workforce. It is legal in corporate America, and there is nothing labor laws can do in that respect, remembet that we all buy products and services from such companies including AT&T, we all invest in such companies, just look at your 401K plan, do you exercise your proxy? therefore I think is a little disingenuous to complaint when we are partially responsible for what companies do and the level of service they do provide.

What a way to earn a living. The constant and NEVER ENDING fear of layoff. It is destroying people's health and family life.

The layoff will never end. It will continue one after another so it's just a matter of time until you get one. That's a given. There is no two ways about it.

pretty soon they will be having these calls and nobody will be on them cause nobody permanent will be left. and they will be too clueless to even know nobody is on the call.

Right she kept waxing poetic about the speed of trust...how they don't understand that there is no trust when you feel you can lose your job at any time is beyond me.

Yes, voluntary survey followed by contractors first, as it should be.

It's just part of the process. When one surplus ends (June 4th), the next one begins (Next Couple Weeks). As far as looking for volunteers, that too is just part of the process. Ask for Volunteers, subtract from goal, and then do non-volunteers for the difference. A better question would have been what's the 2018 and 2019 target for layoffs. We dropped 4,700 in Q1 and I bet we hit 10,000 by end of Q2.

Some BU such as Utility Ops have a contract clause where so long as contractors are working their pool of jobs, internal employees must be offered unlimited overtime.

So to cap OT, they must get rid of contractors.
