Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

HR is doing everything to reduce headcount without providing severance

Employees just let go are the lucky ones, the outsourcing deals that are underway will result in rebadging. Deals to be signed 8/1 and HR will leave as little time as possible between employee notification and effective date for the transition.

Rebadge impact may be good or bad depending on each individual's situation, so consider your options in advance and be ready to act quickly if/when the time comes. HR is doing everything they can to reduce headcount without providing severance packages.

Best option might be to have something lined up already.

@hoyaz, agreed! None of what the OP is claiming is occurring at NYNEX or Bell Atlantic. Nice try troll!

Interesting to see these old threads. So the rebadging part was true, but the getting rid of people with no severance was not. This was right before a very attractive VSP was offered. Verizon's big mistake was doing both at the same time. The retirement eligible folks slated for Infosys thumbed their noses at rebadge and got that VSP. Verizon 0, little guy 1.

Funny how you think "HR" makes these decisions...these decisions are made by your superiors - HR just executes to it

I think I heard them mention "strategic partners" on the call today. Could that be a term for rebadging? I think we have just started a new adventure here. I doubt that we will enjoy it, but hey, the last 20+ RIFs were not much fun either. I'm gonna try to have a good time anyway!

So I am curious. What happens if you do not quit and do not sign the offer letter from the new vendor. How will they rebadge ?

I am only worried about 401k vesting. Do not care much about the severance(though it would be nice)

Yes rebadging will be done from August and everything will be ready by July. They will start with Ves, vcm and followed by Vz wireless. 60.20.20 model. 20% will be layed off and 20% will remain as employees and 60% rebadged. Not just IBM. Multiple vendors are there. Severance package only for people who has served for more than 10 years.

Verizon did this with employees outside of the US several years ago. They work for Ericsson now. How anyone is surprised this is happening in the US is puzzling.

Verizon saved 10 B with president Trump tax cut. Is the company trying to save one more 10B ?? Is Trump gave money for job creation or job disruption?

Probably not a union move.

This very well affect Management specifically IT.

The Rumor is SA's are going to IBM by the end of the year.

This is not fake....rebadge is real...it is just now becoming popular at Verizon. It is a great way to unload employees without “layoffs”. REMEMBER the company plans to cut 10 BILLION dollars in the next four years. This is not personal... It is simply a great business decision.

Rebadge is not in any union contract...it has happened at other companies and a great way to screw union employees. You are not going to be laid off... your just being rebadged to another company.

"Fake News.

The company cannot escape paying severance. It is in the contract with pretty explicit language."

Only for those who are in the union, lot of IT people aren't

Rebadge: Selected Verizon employees become employees of the new vendor at transition but keep doing basically the same work. They probably keep salary and benefits initially, but after a period of time (3-12 months) if they aren't rif'd (with little or no severance) they are migrated to the vendor's salary and benefits plan, which is always much less. That's how the oursource vendors make their profit and Verizon "saves money".
