Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATO Reorg

Anyone know what is going on regarding ATO? Got hit hard during the last round of layoffs and hoped someone may know what is in store for the next round?

The goal is for ATO to have 8,000 off the books by 2019.

The offshoring is what’s killing everything. Bring it back in-house and empower the people doing the work. The quality of work will go way up and the speed will improve

Union NOC Techs in Redmond WA were given notice. 100 $80 - $100k jobs eliminated. Moving work to non-union internal NOT Techs in Atlanta and the Czech Republic.

My group has been given more work and have to learn as you go. Love how they keep changing everything up and do not tell anyone. We are being setup to fail. Sad that one of the most reputable companies, for over 100 years, is being just destroyed. Also tired of hearing how much people despise our services. Randy got played like a fiddle by the DC overlords. I wish all of us that are old school and still take pride in our work, the best of luck.

It does not matter how competent you are, just make sure to kiss a--, something T management knows very well.

@1rnk: It’s not vague. There was a News Now email on Friday announcing it, with specific management changes.

"ATO Reorg" is way too vague.

1.) It's not a single event that will strike on a certain date, it's a continuous process, an evolution.

2.) Considering the above, we can expect the same that has been happening to continue to happen: excessive micromanaging, otherwise perfectly good employees falling by the wayside when they can't perform to expectations that are set arbitrarily.

the c suite are the ones who live behind gated communities, enroll their children in private school, lease a new benz every 3 years, and have help from guatamela tend their gardens and nanny their children. other than that they have no relationship with other people, that's how they can be so psychopathic and believe all the crap they say on all those town halls.

couldn't agree more with both comments. i'd also like to add in response to "while the systems and remaining people can't keep up with the work." ...... it as at that point when they start to look at off shoring all that work and hiring dozens in india to replace the ones with knowledge who are keeping things running and just trying to keep their job

I don't think they actually believe it, I think it is part of their job to push it as good soldiers of the corporate culture. That being said, it is no less dishonest regardless of how they might justify it.

You seem to be confused about corporations, they are just machines for maximizing profits, nothing more nothing less. They try to put lipstick on that pig but it must keep oinking.

The corporate execs who are most successful are usually psychopaths, with no real human feelings about the lives they damage and destroy to plump up their bonuses.

"The stench of arrogance and incompetence.

There is so much wrong with this Of course layoffs are coming, and yet no one wants to hear about it because they're too blinded by the hero worship of AT&T as the most wondrous place and Randall Stephenson as CEO Almighty. All of the senior executives are completely disconnected from what actually happens, and they keep perpetuating all of these fallacies that "we have the best network" and "we have the best culture."

The executive suit is a joke, There is no strategy at this company "surplus" (translation: layoff), which happen every quarter. competence is not existent, unqualified for? You are hired@@ and you have no control over your own career with the possibility that you could be reassigned (or lose your job) at any time without warning. There is no ability to actually accomplish anything at the company because there is a constant need to cut costs in order to satisfy the stock dividend, so necessary projects go "unfunded" and hiring freezes persist while the systems and remaining people can't keep up with the work.

Everyone just sits in their own silo, trying to accomplish their own organizational goals with no thought to how their actions impact any other groups around them. Rather than thinking holistically to roll out the best possible product, service or initiative, everyone tries to prove their own worth and make their numbers and "check their boxes" so they can hopefully avoid being surplussed.
