To the poster that posted this little gem of wisdom..

"Union folks celebrating their own demise... typical...

I'm very sure Union workers have nothing to do with this debacle, and will have ample warning before the axe falls , unlike some that will have 60 days to GTFO, with NO job protection.

Oh boy, back in November 2016, the best interview so far Randall Stephenson said that if he has his way, AT&T will be a totally different company in 2017 than the one he started at in 1982, no kidding

In some ways, he seems the least likely of innovators, with an approach to business that often scrunches down to the technical aspects of finance, the analyst noted

It get better....

Stephenson declined to be interviewed for this article.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, who worked with Stephenson to bring a golf event to southern Dallas, describes Stephenson as “being able to play at two levels at the same time.” really?

he added "As we get to the end of 2015, we’re going to be talking about a very different business and a very different company.”

And he was right, down the toilet with

DirecTV and a couple of Mexican wireless

And the epic Donavan line:

"Randall Stephenson is an extraordinary leader, not least because he understands that with an organization as large and complex as AT&T, he can manage every detail on his own, "Randall is setting a grand strategic vision, but it will be up to his lieutenants to execute, and has also pushed an ethical and social agenda within AT&T", Really?

It gets better......

Sometimes he pushes a moral stand with a hard-edged business angle: A couple of years ago, he told his employees they needed to retrain and get smart about new tech and that AT&T would reimburse up to $8,000 in tuition.

“There is a need to retool yourself, and you should not expect to stop,” he said.

But sometimes he takes stands that are totally unexpected: He used a speech to his employees a couple of months ago that could have been just an annual rah-rah to push powerful support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

News reports say he learned from Slim to keep a list of companies to target.

So far, Stephenson’s public statements indicate he is aware that consumers are wary of a company that wields such power over their online lives. Trump and other politicians have said the merger should be blocked for that reason alone. He also recognizes that some worry that a risk-averse corporate culture could stifle Time Warner properties like CNN and HBO.

Since the deal was announced last month, an array of critics have stepped forward with questions. Stephenson, ever the steady hand, has sought to ensure investors that the deal makes sense, while assuring consumers it won’t mean higher prices and even the creatives at Time Warner that he’ll leave them alone.

To those skeptical of AT&T’s intentions, he says that this is just one more — and a necessary — step in the company’s evolution, and one that he will manage responsibly — as he has done for most of his career.

In 2011, Stephenson led an attempt by AT&T to buy T-Mobile for $39 billion. He announced an effort to bring 5,000 call center jobs back the U.S. from overseas because he said that addressed an issue that was important to Americans.

That attempt to put a positive spin on the proposed purchase failed to persuade the federal Justice Department’s antitrust division that filed suit to block the merger.

But that failure didn’t stop Stephenson from going after other major additions to the company. DirecTV was a $47 billion deal. Time Warner would be great

Harwell said he was impressed at the way Stephenson made his points without coming across as dictatorial or emotional.

"I think that Randall Stephenson is one of those incredibly strong leaders that tries to do the right thing, no matter what environment he is in." That is why AT&T is in the same league with Google and Amazon.

Previous_ totally incorrect, AT&T surplus declarations are Every quarter by resign, that is what they do, merger or not merger, good economy or not, many of the signs of a company in trouble, may be we should ask our friends Legacy DTV, how the merger helped them, LMAO

First, as some one noted above, this is only one persons view and probably carries no more weight than all the others chiming in, even if he did write a lot of books on the matter.

Secondly, as much as I would like to see some high executives shown the door, the reality is that many departments will be announcing surpluses in the next two weeks. I would bet that the amount let go will be a direct result of the merger results. If The merger is killed, AT&T is gonna send a lot more out the door than if the merger is successful. For one, they will be telling the government the F off. Plus without Time Warner, the revenue still has major pressure and getting rid of people is their answer.

So be aware that if the merger goes south, it will be us on the bottom that will take the brunt.
