Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

4000 to be laid off

AT&T

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is not only the second largest wireless carriers in the U.S., but among the top pay-TV providers as well. The communications giant was one of the first companies to announce one-time employee bonuses tied to recently enacted tax legislation, saying the move would "create good-paying jobs." What makes this particularly ironic is that soon after, the company began notifying an estimated 4,000 employees that they would be laid off.

The telecom giant is being sued by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), a union that represents some of the employees. In a court filing, the group said that AT&T is "instituting an unprecedented massive layoff of employees … while at the same time massively subcontracting work that the employees are trained and qualified to perform." Former employee who basically had enough. Switched to Tmobile (way quicker speeds and was quite surprised), uverse and hsia out this week. Saving money below employee discount (another big surprise). This company is definitely headed in the wrong direction. My biggest regret is that I wasted years with a company that just doesn't care about both customers and employees. Greed rules here and is dictated by nothing but cheating and lies (seen it first hand). Regardless, may not be making same wage, but am far happier. Keep the faith former fellow employees, it may be a long hard road out of Hell, but you can assure the direction is up.

When you have declining revenue you need to compensate by cutting expense. Couple that with high debt load, technology change and automation and you will have more cuts. Best preparation is to improve skills to be ready what may come.

Only 2 type or workers at this conglomerate. 1_ the ones that are shown the door. 2_ the ones that are about to get layoff

Please get educated and prepare yourself for what's coming. DO NOT expect the CWA to do anything. I have been an ET in North Carolina since 1999. The biggest weapon we have is a strike. We have not walked out for 1 hour since I came to work here. The last contract had a big increase in our payment for health care. We asked our Local president to suggest a 1 day walkout. She said "We can't do that, the managers might get mad at us" SMH

4,000, that is a laugh. Read the Quarterly Reports; We have already laid off 4,760 and that was just in Q1. Wait till Q2 Numbers hit...

It indicates Verizon is laying off too. So, it sounds like a sector trend.

I left that dump about 18 months ago and I can emphatically state that my life is for the better. Less stress, no sociopathic managers, no more IDP’s that were always bs spinning my way to state what a manger wanted to hear to make a decent bonus.

I missed the discounts at first but directv s---s now and T-Mobile gives me 50 percent off for my veteran status. Which is less expensive regardless.

Time with my children is more fulfilling and my conscience is clean now, no more lying to new employees trying to say with a straight face how great it is to work there.

Transferred my 401, yanked my pension because let’s face it...how long is that going to be around for. T is a debt ridden old handbag. I always have a slight grin when I see that stock price creep a little lower each day.

Why are they suing? Most states have right to work laws, we can thank the union for 2 DECADES of inaction, another PR campaign to make you believe that they care
