We were recently told if a customer has problems with dial tone and there are no spare pairs to throw to, we are not allowed to fix the pair they are on. We are told to tell them, I am sorry but we can't fix your problem you will have to look for an alternative provider. One of our guys was just fired because he felt bad for the little old lady with no dial tone and he fixed her pair against the bosses orders. Is this happening in other areas? Maryland Tech here. Seems like a good way to go out of business.

It’s called NT. If you know what it is, then it should not surprise you. I&M guys on regular fios troubles are not suppose to fix fibers. It’s supposed to be called in to CXM and they will find/fix.
Worst part of all of this...the copper network has gone down the drain after years of neglect and guess what folks, the guys working FIOS are now doing the exact same thing they did with copper.
Had an issue with mine and guy came out and said I am not wasting my Saturday trying to find the fault in your fiber so I switched you to a working fiber...go figure..going down the same road, not fixing just swapping.

At least the guy that got let go fixing the little old lady's dial tone had balls enough to stick to his morals, not unlike V, they'll try to FU for the stupidest sh--. The lady at least has a way to call in a medical emergency if she needs now. Verizon would let her die right in front of the tech if they had they're way.
Out here in CA. we were told way back in 1999 that maintenance on copper plant will cease immediately. Most of it was 40+ years old and a lot of it was the old paper insulation and when it got wet it crashed immediately. When Frontier bought us out several years ago they paid big money for a lot of junk. Glad I had my points and my time and I retired back in 2011.
Do people still have wireline phones? really?
They have been letting the copper plant fall apart for years. They want people to go to the cable companies so that they can remove the copper cable. They still need copper for certain things but residential service is not one they want to keep.
This has been policy for years IN AREAS CURRENTLY SERVED BY BOTH COPPER AND FIOS. The customer is not denied service; the customer is given a choice between upgrading or disconnecting.
