In ATTSE, the position of Customer Service Technician was eliminated (NOT Service Technician) and the title of Premises Technician was born just in time for the first wave of uVerse to be rolled out in Charlotte, NC on Carmel Rd. in Southpark. Since then, the title was changed to Wire Tech and the job was brought in under the union umbrella, with about a $4/hr raise at the time.
There are some areas of the country where the titles Customer Service Technician AND Premises Technician coexist, such as Texas (the only state I can recollect at the moment). I think this was done to prevent the displaced workers from mobbing the Dallas HQ if such a layoff took place since their numbers are so vast.
