I just left a meeting regarding cutting more in store cost and there was an general agreement that GM's added little value to stores anymore. SM's and a Floating DM will replace the void left by the GM's. This has been experimented in several district's and now will go company wide on May 17th. Please use this information to plan and prepare GLTA.

What happened to the GM position being eliminated? Went into work today and my GM was there and everything was BAU. So many post here stating they heard all this credible info but yet nothing happened. Wonder if it's trolls causing the confusion or Verizon playing mind games since they now know everyone posts info on this site.

@1kru I couldn't agree more we are abused as front line employees,, however, the Sms if not pushed are lazy and offer no help to us, the are mostly former slammers with no integrity, and have no background in Retail Management and team leadership. Like you say ,The GM keeps then inline ! If they get rid of the GMs The SMS will be running the show! Bad Idea!

90% walking corpse support, forgotten password abuse target, apple store for the people that can't be bothered to go to the apple store to fix their icloud, indirect clean-up, telemarketer, babysitter
solution managers
5% actual managing
5% "coachings" aka, "i have to do x number a day, so lets just make something up because i don't have time to actually coach you and help you grow, though its not like you want to grow because when you get to my position, you'll be up for layoff every six months, or you'll become a sleeping pill addict and alcoholic, and you'll make less money anyway."
50% ops
30% angry customer verbal beatdown victim
10% forcing themselves into your sales because clearly you aren't good enough to work with your goddamn customer.

95% chillin in the office "working" or "on a call"
5% on the floor so the SM can go to lunch, or to smile at us like we are great before sending the SM on the down low to tell us how much we s---, but in a constructive developmental way, of course.
I don't know how it is in other stores in other markets, but i know from my peers in the other stores in my city (total, we are are spread among like 10 stores and 3 districts) when our GMs aren't around, morale is amazing, the SMs are happy, they do real work instead of bullsh*t micromanaging, and we sell a lot more stuff. it's like the GMs come in and foul up the SMs moods and it kills our days.
For the record, I like my GM, but dead a--, they don't do sh*t, and we do better when they are gone. we can be facebook friends, and i'll put them on snap, but my money and my baby is my priority.
What kind of meeting was it? Was it a 1:1, all GM meeting, town hall, etc....

Common man, layoffs take months to plan.
Let's see I really don't believe it especially in NYM where ther is always customer volume and our store ranges 300 to 400 GAs a month. It should be 1 GM and 1 SM and a key holder , the Majority of SMs are worthless , this will stop the GMs from taking every weekend off, so let's see.

you dumb azz people dont see the writing on the wall. Laying off the GM's would make sense i dont know if it will happen but i would make sense what do they really do... SMs do timesheets... reps count and close drawers...all GMs do is sit on calls all day then go home at 3.

The layoff is coming 5/17 , but this is never ending. They do it strategically to abide by state laws of non disclosure...smart. Don't expect thousands to be rif in a couple states, expect thousands from many states. Round one for 2018, i expect another 2...August / Dec

Store managers are the most expensive employee in a store... so from a cost cutting standpoint i could verizon doing this.
Its starting to make sense now this is the reason they allowed 2 sms to stay at stores that had 3 sms and not just go down to one.
