A while ago, when AT&T had 300,000 people, they said they needed to cut by 1/3rd by 2020. Well, now, they have 249,000 so they're half way there. And there is no telling if this goal is by the beginning of 2020, or the end of 2020. It is not like they're going to start this come 2020. It is already underway. They'll be a bump in force reduction if they succeed in mothballing landline telephony.
The jury is out on whether they'll be able to do that due to government regulation.
The acquisition of TW is going to make it harder to keep track on how the headcount reduction is going.
But, these calamity Jane posts by people not connected to the company are just complete nonsense. Through a combination of voluntary separations together with layoffs, this will be done and has been well underway. I think attrition, volunteees and retirements will account for 2/3rds of reductions.
Seriously!?! Randall said himself there will be large layoffs by 2020...unless this post references a specific department...it’s a waste.

I heard something similar, but I actually heard by the end of the first quarter of 2019, and it will be company wide. Hoping there will be some decent offers on the table for those wanting to jump ship.
