Next round of surplus in ATO (no volunteers). Current rumor on dates.

08-06-18: Impacted Groups notified via conference calls with summary

08-20-18: Those identified as surplus notified (probably via call from your manager)

10-19-18: Off the payroll (60 day period ending)

Someone with 2-3 years to go will not be surplus or forced out. It will be someone with less seniority.

But you also have some that have never worked outside, were hired off the street because they knew someone, they couldn't have done outside work if their life depended on it. They have a gravy train and that is what I don't understand. And in late 60's, they are just cruising along, working from home. I don't know why they think they are entitled to a large buy out. It pisses a lot of people off. Butt kisser.

TWpn8A6-1nkv It doesn't always work out that the oldest are forced out. If the company would have offered the enhanced buyout they offered a few years ago there would have been a few of us going. But this last offer was only good for those that are thinking of retiring in the next 3-6 months. I do think there will be a forced layoff later like TWpn8A6-1iwy said.

I also heard the same rumor that Arnoldi wanted to ask for volunteers. I personally think the company should offer a bit more to really clean out many of us older workers. I am not at the age of social security yet but I would just find a less stressful job if I was ever forced out before 62. But they could get rid of quite of few of us older workers in engineering with a decent offer and that would keep the younger people safe for a while. I remember when I started at PacBell in 1996 they were offering the older people a '4+4' and that cleared quite a few people out. For those that don't know what (4+4) is...it added 4 years to your age and 4 years to your years of service. It's too bad they don't offer managers better packages. It would allow the younger ones to stay. I have been told by many 2nd levels and directors that they like us older ones since we have so much experience with different kinds of engineering. Most of us started out as techs and did different things for the last 30 years. Most of the younger people have only done one kind of job.

The people who are hanging on for 2-3 years are the ones that the company needs to leave now. If they don't takes the voluntary, they will be forced out at the next surplus.

@gvb: if you report up to Arnoldi which I believe most of us here do this past announcement was supposed to be a forced surplus but at her insistence it was voluntary. Next one (announced later this month?) will be forced based on rumors.

I am in the SF Bay Area and they asked for volunteers to take the severance and leave the company. I have not heard that there will be a 'forced' layoff if there aren't enough volunteers but it seems to always work out that way. I'm sure there will be a forced layoff if there aren't enough people who volunteer. We haven't heard how many or what percentage but we all know the company is needing to layoff. In Construction and Engineering we are mostly older so there will be quite a few of us retiring in the next 2-3 years. I am an Engineer and out of about 12 people there are 6 of us that probably won't be here in the next 3 years due to age and years of service.
