Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Changes

Stores will close. Districts realigned, and GMs overseeing two stores. Plans are in the works. Best bet is to see when your lease for your store is up. If it’s this year, prepare to be shut down.

The next gen stores are safe, they cost less to operate and will become th flagship store in any given area over time.

Ask your GM when the lease in your building is up, not all of them are so comfortable answering.

The store at BTC is up in October, Tuscon Broadway uo this year as well. If you work in a store and your lease is up this year ride it out and take the severance.

Bumped from @TEjy7L2-2zum for info.

Confirmed from head of real estate that next gen store concepts will be the remaining corporate stores. They can run efficiently with less employees and reduced hours and still take traffic from neighboring stores. I’d feel safest in a next gen remodel. Old legacy stores and even smart stores are being sold or sh-- down because overhead is so high.

I wonder if they'll begin to close the smart stores. The local Indirect does a 10th of the news that our location does. NEM hasn't been hit as hard yet but its getting more ominous every day

Stores that perform well will also be on the block for sale. The company cant just sell 2nd and 3rd rate stores who would buy just them? Some s---er? Some good must be sold with the bad by design. This was done with wireline territory sales as well. California was a very valuable property foolishly sold but a package of properties where needed to close a deal. Banks do the same with mortgages. they sprinkle a little sh-- on the sandwich when they sell. Obviously there will be some strategy to it, what or how is up to them. No store is safe with the exception of maybe a few in Manhattan or some other high profile location.

There were mall locations in California and Massachusetts that had a remodel last year and then converted to a reseller. Nothing is black and white with this company. No method or consistency to how and why they close stores. BTW these were profitable C store locations with about a year left on lease.

If the store is an A performer, then it's a keeper, B+ keeper, B- and C's will go first and will not get a remodel.

How do you know if your lease is up? It says August this year according to the public information online. But couldn’t VZW have resigned the lease or extended it?

On the contrary, VZ will invest the money to update store to nextgen because agents can afford to do it themselves and VZ has the people to get it done. It's cheaper to invest in a remodel then keeping all the overhead like staff salaries benefits rent etc.

Op has a point, if an investment is being made to remodel to nextgen chances are it's a good performer and a keeper for now, the rest MIGHT close or transfer to an agent. And, no they won't remodel a store to hand off to an agent (fake news).

Next Gen stores are the ones being turned over to agents. All the rest will shut down.
