any information on directv call center workers?
Helping those close to retirement would be the smartest move because they don’t want to be here! They are just waiting to hit their date and in some cases really not ‘working’ . No brainer T.
we have guys with over 40 years declining sipp, no sipp for these old guys
@TEyEBtg-1ftg I have heard the company is going to begin offering upfront SIPP, but I have not heard any details. An extra incentive along with it would be great, and a lot of retirement eligible workers would jump at the chance. Like someone else stated, this company has a lot of employees with a lot of years. They just need that extra push, in some instances, to be able to leave.
No layoff announcement. We here at att do not like that language. It is so negative and we are trying to promote a happy hip young culture. We prefer to refer to them as a force balancing surplus situation.
The surplus announcement however will be happening on Friday the 15th.

Rumor going around, over 700 core employees in California.
Rumour is a package offer beyond normal severance to volunteers is in the works. Normal severance today is 6 months pay max for management. A few years ago it was a Full 12 months (years salary) max, and the possibility of it being offered again may being considered to increase volunteers and minimize the non-volunteers and continued layoff of good workers. The company is loaded with a retirement eligible long tenured employee base. Anybody aware of or possibly hear anything similar?
Hearing that ATO (and possibly more) will Declare a general surplus Friday or early next week. This will allow them to offer voluntary severance to anyone who wants it and not just those in an affected work group. After they get their volunteers, then people will be told whether they are in affected / non affected work groups. So it appears it will play out a little different than past rounds.
Unsure of how (or if) any union surpluses will roll out.

Layoffs are going to be common place for the next few years. Anyone who's been paying attention to the transition from a TDM based network to an IP based network knew this day of reckoning was inevitable, particularly when the end game is 5G wireless that requires very little field support once deployed. I imagine the TWX deal is also putting pressure on the company to cut as many employees as possible to help payoff that $85 billion price tag......it's gonna be a hard to squeeze out another 5 years if you're not working directly with the new technologies.
@1erz: not all layoffs effect those who are covered by a contract.
Every quater on the 15th, for various contracts, please educate yourselve and know your contract
